Magic Band Quirks

Overall love the MB concept but what are some weird, quirky things you have encountered? The one that is still irritating me is we checked in early(8am) at AKL. Our room wasn't ready but we wanted to begin our dining plan. When we arrived back that afternoon, I tried to go through the guest gate. MB did not work. The gate guard asked if I had used this particular band to open my room. I told him that I had not and he informed me in a very irritated way that it will not work until I do. I have already checked in, I have already been assigned a room, my wife and family were already in the room (rode buses). What the crap? The other thing associated with getting through the gate is that if you do not have go-go gadget arms, you will have to remove your MB to touch the sensor. Anyone else have a quirk?

It bugs me so much when I search for FP+ options, and it tells me that the option that conflicts with my dinner plans is my BEST match. How is that my best match? And you KNOW my dinner reservations....why are you giving me options that conflict with my dinner plans at all???

That explains why my MagicBand wouldn't open the gate the first night of my stay a few weeks ago, but it worked every other night. We checked in that afternoon, and one of my kids used their band to open the room door. We left to drive to Epcot for the evening. When we came back, my band wouldn't open the security gate. Instead of trying to figure out why it wasn't working, I pulled out my KTTW card (still being issued at that time) and used that instead. It opened the gate right away. The next day I tried my band again and it worked that time and every other time. I must have used my band to open the room door in the interim.

This certainly sounds like a major logic flaw in the system. I think they should change this so that all bands linked to accounts on the registration are immediately activated for security gate use upon check-in. If they want to stick with this "must use band to open room door first", they certainly need to clearly state this requirement.

Also, just like you I had the issue of having to take off my band to be able to press it up against the sensor. There was no way my arm could contort to reach the sensor with the MagicBand still on my wrist.

I agree. I was speaking specifically about MB. It would take me a couple of hours to talk about the pros and cons of FP+. I think people have negatives about both together but if we separate them out, there would be a good deal more people happy with the MB than with FP+

We had no quirks and no problems with any of the new technology other than the phone app. There is reason to hope that things will get better.
