Magic Band Question

We have been going to WDW for many years and I have quite a collection of magic bands accumulating in my drawers. We are going again in a few weeks and sure enough the new bands arrived today! They are fine and after checking it out on the site most of my earlier bands are still "active". Could I, in theory, link one of my older bands to this new reservation and have two for the trip? Just wondering ... will try to remember to cancel the order for MB for the next trip but in the meantime ...

You can just use any of your active bands...there's nothing to link to the new reservation.

I usually take 2-3 of my previous ones in different colours to mix and match with my outfit. I finally disconnected the old 1.0 version ones and got rid of them. They still worked, but the long range RFID probably didn't anymore (this is what allows it to tag photos on rides to your account) and since they were the old style and I'm getting more, I figured I didn't need them around.

As others have said no need to link to your reservations aside from confirming they open your resort room door if applicable (seems to be an occasional issue). They essentially work as a key to your account not to a specific trip.

Just FYI the batteries in the MB's are generally only built to last 2 years. The chip information is readable for longer, but if the band needs to transmit it will only work for 2-ish years. I forget which functions are read-only and which use the battery (I *Think* room key access is battery and RFID function is not, but don't quote me on that)

Room door (touch point) is not a battery function.
There are some “non-touch” room doors that utilize the “distance transmission,” but they will even also
work with a touch.

Very easy way to tell...
If you TOUCH the MB to a reader, that function needs no battery.

Thank you! I know there are specific things that use the battery, but what they are is totally escaping me right now.

Automatic ride photos being put on your account (such as 7DMT)

Also, if it's working, having your name appear on IASM. Is that still working at all? I don't know.

Not much else. There was supposed to be a bunch of things such as this, but they were basically all scrapped (such as characters knowing your names when you walked in to greet them, and knowing if they've seen you before, and when/where).

After a band is linked to you its linked forever so as long as it is active it can be used.
There is n o such thing as a "reservation specific" magic band.

I had no idea it used the long transmission to automatically do this. I thought you had to scan it at the end where your photo is!

There are at least two attractions with ride photos/videos that do not even offer a manual "scan" as you exit the attraction.
