What I do not get is why you are required to have tickets linked first for FP+. They have your reservation and all your other trip plans and you have mb why can't they link it to the bands? You are going to have to buy tickets eventually to get in the parks so they know you will have them when you get there. We are waiting for, hoping for, some kind of better ticket discount. If nothing is announced by 30 days out I will order through Undercover Tourist.

Sorry I just felt a need to rant after getting my 60 day email today and not being able to book fp+ yet. I like the old way better.

People actually vacation at WDW without going into the parks.
If you have a ticket, you are more likely to actually use them versus having people book fast passes and not even go to into the parks. It's similar to having a credit card on file when making dining reservations.

Sent from my IPad using DisBoards.

They could link the fp+ to a crdit card. You could choose the type of ticket you are going to buy and if you do not link tickets before the first fp+ reservation they add them to your account. That wa yit is similar to a dining reservation. If you do not link a creditcard you do not get the benefit. That way they are covered, if you remove cc and don't link tickets you lose fp+

I may get flamed for this, but rewarding the people who've committed to buying their tickets sooner by giving them first dibs at the FP+'s seems fair to me.

I'd be really annoyed if I found out that I couldn't get decent FP+ times because they're already taken by people who may not even be going into the parks that day!

As far as waiting for ticket discounts, you might as well buy your tickets now - they generally only go up.

If it were me and I didn't want to buy all my tickets now, I'd probably buy at least one for the me (the trip planner) and lock in those FP+ times. Then when you buy the others, you can try to link them to your existing FP+ reservations.

I think they require the link so that you don't reserve more FP+ days than you have tickets for. Say I'm planning on being there 7 nights but only going to the park for 5. They don't want you to be able to reserve 7 or 8 days of FP+ and then decide later which days you will use them.

I think at 30 days out you will still have FP+ options open.

And it's not like dining reservation - at least not yet so you don't need to reserve 60 days in advance. You can even do it the night before.

But if they allowed people to reserve without any criteria that they were definitely going to be there and in the parks there are lots of people that would tie up FP's just because they might go or just because they could. As Magic Bands get out there I think this is going to become more and more of a problem that they need to figure out how they are going to restrict.

As it is you'll still get FP's sooner than the old way even if you just buy the day before you go in.

Actually, I don't think you need to get stressed about making FastPass+ selections at 60 days out. In reality, you'll probably get everything you want within 24 hours or less. Perhaps the biggest misconception about the FastPass+ system is the belief that if you don't book FastPasses+ when the 60 day window opens you'll be shut out of the most popular attractions. That has not been the case yet, and I doubt that it will happen even when the FastPass+ system is rolled out completely starting next week.

Another way to look at your situation is that if you don't link ticket media to your MDE account ahead of time, then you are in the same position as "the old way", at least for your very first day. Before, you couldn't get FastPasses until you entered the Park. And if you didn't get to the Park until later in the day then there was a good chance you wouldn't get a FastPass for some of the most popular attractions. If you wait until you arrive at a Park to buy your tickets and link them to your MDE account, you'll be in essentially the same situation as "the old way", at least for the very first day.

^^^^ill vouch for that. There have been days we didn't make it to a FP selection and were able to rechoose, soarin' even.

We found we could change everything the night before with no problem, but times showed as none available when we tried to change within a few hours of the time.

The entire My Magic + process is designed to increase revenue and direct guest traffic.

Getting people to commit to vacations, book early, buy tickets early, make ADR's early, plan FR's early, check in online early, tends to keep them from changing their minds and going somewhere else for vacation.

Agreed. That has been Disney's stance on this from the beginning. They're trying to get you to commit to them instead of going to US or SW. So if you've bought your tickets, you'll most likely use them.

Per one of the Dis Unplugged hosts, she's had no trouble getting day of FP+s for her desired rides. Sounds decent to me! I like the flexibility of the system even though many will disagree with me about that :) We don't have to be there for rope drop and send a FP runner. We can stroll through the parks, soaking up atmosphere, as Walt intended!
