Magic Band for DME?

My son is flying from his base in NC to join us in Disney. I will have his magic band. Does he need this for the Magical Express?

Do we need to contact DME ahead of time to make a reservation for him? He has not booked a flight yet. I can let our travel agent know what flight he is taking when he does.

Will he at least have the paperwork for DME? When we arrived at Magical Express, we had to scan a magic band 2 or 3 times total before boarding the bus. I wonder if he has the paperwork, they can scan that (the way they used to before magic bands).

In order for him to use DME he needs a reservation with them first. So when he does book his flight, give that to your TA or fill out the DME online form for him so his tags and packet can be mailed to him.
 
Typically the MB is scanned when you arrive at the DME area, but I believe he can bring the voucher he will get in the mail after you make the DME reservation. There are people who book last minute trips or don't customize their bands in time and have to receive their bands at the resort, and they are still permitted to ride DME from the airport. I would have him bring the vouchers and worst case, he may need to stop at the DME desk in the airport. But he definitely does need a reservation once his flight is booked.
 
Yes, he will need to reserve a ride on dme. He needs to be listed on the resort reservation to get a reservation for dme. If he has no paperwork, he can show his id and should then be given a pass to ride. I would send him the paperwork, or a copy of it, so he'll have it when he gets to Mco.
 

It is possible to ride MDE without MB. International guests can not get their MB until they check in to their resorts. Call DME they can give you instructions on what to do for him if he has no paper work and no MB.

My suggestion was going to be to email him the ME form with the bar code on it. You can photograph it with your phone and send it. Or there are great apps that scan via the camera on your phone. If they can scan the barcode on it that's all they need

We actually ended up needing ours because there was a glitch with our bands after the 2nd scan. When we first got to the ME area and scanned in it read the correct resort. But when we got to the actual loading it showed the wrong one. No one knew what was up but they verified our destination via the paperwork, which I also just happened to have
