With the magic band
can you go directly to your room and not check in the front desk?
 
If you've completed online check in before, and have credit card on file, yes.
 
The concept of this still is blowing my little mind, in a good way. If I walk up to my door and it actually opens for me I will probably laugh out loud

Ours did!

We flew into TPA (no DME) and took a rental car to WDW. We stopped at Target on the way and got the text that our room was ready. It was 11am! We drove over to AKV and walked right in and went straight to our room. All of or MB's worked without issues.
 
This has always worked for me with the exception of charging ability. That has never once worked! I always had to call or stop at the desk anyways.

Worked for me. Never stepped foot in the lobby :cool1: AND I didn't even use the MB they sent me. I used my old Haunted Mansion one.

Its now connected to the mydisneyexperience, so once you check you mde account, it will ask you check in questions, putting a credit card on file, your preferences (high or low floor, etc - not too many choices there we've found) We're supposed to be all set up - haven't tried it yet - that will come in a week! (not sure how far in advance, maybe 30 days before check in)

oh, and the week before you go - mde sends you emails a "check list" I think I've gotten one the last 3 days so far! (and if you have a lunch Be Our Guest adr, check that adr in your itinerary and you can pre order your food! Its supposed to let you skip the one line for ordering food, just skip to pay for your food - its lunch only)
 
At this time there are a few reasons why you would not be selected to be able to go right to the room. First and most obvious is the room you are assigned based on you request may not be ready. In which case you would get a message saying the room is not ready. Second would be some sort of issue with your online check in, such as not setting up a pin number for everyone in the party, not leaving a CC on file or even if someone's magicband is not able to be set automatically. Then you will be directed via text or email to visit the front desk to check in.
 
Direct to room check in is not available for international guests as they are not sent their magic bands in the mail and they need to go to the front desk to pick them up anyway.
 
Just an FYI for those that use the Military room-only discount, you will not get the text. Just took a recent trip to POR, and we were unable to use this feature, as we needed to show ID for the proof of rate. Good thing we stopped at the front desk to inquire about it. We even received the e-mail, before our trip, that told us we could take advantage of the straight to room feature.

It told me I could take advantage of it too... But I'm an international traveler and don't have magic bands until check in so I knew it was lying, lol.
 
It worked great for us. I was pretty skeptical but we had no issues. Our room wasn't ready initially but I got another text when it was. Such a cool option!
 
It worked great for us. Our flight got into Sanford at 9:30 PM so we didn't get to the resort until 11. We were staying at CBR. It was nice to just drive to the building where our room was and go directly in. I highly recommend using this feature if you can.

Thanks Belle! That stinks! I have done the online check in, because MDE allowed me too, I had figured we needed to stop by the front desk to verify military status for room discount, but was at least hoping to know what room we got, before we arrived.

No, you do not have to go to the front desk. The dining plan will be active on arrival day.
 
As someone else said, the ability to go straight to your resort room without stopping at the front desk is not available for everyone.

You have to have the following:
- you have to have completed online check in and posted a credit card to your account
- you have to have received your Magic Bands
- you have to be paid in full
and I'm sure there are other conditions that I am not aware of.

If you are eligible then you will receive an email a few days ahead of time, telling you all about it. We were able to go directly to our resort room without stopping at the front desk, and it was really nice.
