Magic Band A/P Question Please

Can someone here answer a question for me please?

We have been AP holders for years and have been able to customize and preorder Magic Bands in the past. We have a trip coming up soon and I ordered and have a shipping confirmation number for mine for this trip.

My daughter (grown, married, and with her own My Disney Experience) went on her MDE to order hers and her husband's MB. The website would let her do her husbands but not her own. She called Disney and they insisted that you only get an AP Magic Band by ordering AFTER you enter the park the first time and activate your AP. They even had their technical department go on her MDE and remove the customize your MB area for both her and her husband.

We called back later and got the same answer. They seemed mystified as to why I was able to order and really didn't seem to believe we were telling them the truth until they looked at my MDE and saw the shipping confirmation for themselves - said it must be a glitch.
What good is a MB that you recieve after your trip? I know the point of being an AP is being able to use it for a year but we do a two week trip when we activate and hopefully another. Have we really been the benificaries of glitches in the past because we have been able to order bands before our trip or has something changed?

Can anyone offer any insight? Thanks!

Do you have an on-site reservation? Was your AP a renewal or a new one?

We were not able to order our AP bands until we entered the park. We had an on-site stay, so we were able to use the bands for that (as well as previous trip bands). Then, ordered AP bands when we returned home. Have a great trip!

Rule of thumb:

WDW Resort MBs come BEFORE a trip.
AP MBs come AFTER the first AP trip.

And, of course, AP holders who make WDW Resort reservations can use the resort MBs for their APs.

We do have an onsite reservation for the first night but to be clear, this is a separate band. I was able to order two - one for the reservation and one for AP.

That band order that you say is your AP band lists a resort reservation. Do both of them show a resort reservation?

The CM was correct. The 'customize your MB' isn't supposed to show up for AP's until after they've been activated/used the first time.

Like others have said, the norm and how it goes is you can't customize your AP band until you go to Disney and activate your AP. This means you don't get your AP band until AFTER your first trip. There has been a glitch from time to time where a few people have had it pop up where they can customize their AP magic band prior to activating their AP, but that is not the norm

No, that one is AP. There was a place that said Customize your passholder MB. This is the confirmation from that one. The other is a resort reservation. See, right over the top it says AP Band. the bottom is the resort - it says resort stay band at the top.
