The best soccer magazine is World Soccer but if you are looking for a more general sports magazine Sports Illustrated and ESPN Magazine are good bets. He'll also get the swimsuit issue with SI which would also be good for an 11 year old boy.
World Soccer and 4-4-2 according to my 14 yo soccer player. He says ESPN focuses on MLS, which is "lame" (translation- US soccer not as good as international soccer).
Sports Illustrated Kids is a good general sports magazine for kids. My 12 yo still likes that one.
My DS15 has been getting SI and SI Kids for several years. He also started getting ESPN Magazine last year.
My DS11 reads the SI Kids now. DS15 is beyond that one...
(ESPN just sent the body edition...OMG....I was a little embarrassed over that one. I let my DS15 browse it..and then it went into the recycling bin. The SI swimsuit edition was more tasteful...if that's even possible. )
It's not sports related, but my two oldest kids (8 & 10) love National Geographic for kids. They fight over who gets to read it first the day it arrives in the mail (and then enjoy educating their dad and I about interesting things they learned from it).
