Maelstrom refurb in august?

I have been hearing that maelstrom isn't available for FPP after August 16th or so. I haven't been able to find a scheduled refurb but there are plenty of rumors about incorporating frozen. Does anyone have the scoop on this? Does disney often close rides for refurb without any notice?

the same thing last night as I booked our fast passes for our trip 8/14-8/23
Maelstrom was not available the days we tried. we do get there on the 14th so we may have to go then.
I looked but saw nothing about a refurb...just thinking it's not been announced yet.

Just had another look, and at the beginning of our trip near the start of august maelstrom is available, so it must be closing sometime later during the month.

It is not listed as a FP option Aug. 16th and beyond.

When Disney announced the changing of the tiers of Epcot last week I tried to add Maelstrom but couldn't. I mentioned it a few times that I couldn't see it but I don't think there were any responses as to what it could be. This probably explains it.

Someone just mentioned today that they were able to get a Maelstrom FP for Aug 18th so I don't know what to think anymore.

I just today booked a FP+ reservation for the ride on 08-17, so I'm not sure what the issue was before.

Everything is still just a rumor but most of the buzz is that winter is coming.

They're not going to let the opportunity to throw in some Frozen get away. If I had to guess I'd say even if this FP thing has nothing to do with a rehab (and it may be just a glitch), if you like Maelstrom then ride it at your next opportunity.

I've been trying since the 10th June and it's never been there. Just tried and it is!! Booked for 11:05 - 12:05.

Maybe someone was having fun at the expense of those who like to use the internet to peddle speculation and info from trusted "sources" about Disney's super secret grand plans to (1) fail to capitalize on Frozen at WDW, (2) capitalize on Frozen at WDW but in the wrong way (i.e., disgracing the true meaning and purpose of EPCOT, violating the What Would Walt Do policy, etc.), (3) be as cheap as possible, (4) do Frozen injustice by not having the best, most awesomest attraction ever, (5) come up with the best most awesomest attraction ever, but decide to cut it all the way back so that it ends up as nothing more than adding Olaf to Maelstrom, dangling off the oil rig and waving to the guests, or (6) drive the last nail in Disney's coffin against Universal by not building a 5th gate with an immersive Frozen land.

I was able to book a fastpass for Maelstrom for August 23rd. I just booked it last night.

Whatever the issue was (a glitch?) (a planned refurbishment that hadn't been announced but they decided to cancel?) Maelstrom is now available for all of August. Thanks to those who posted the good news.

Darn it! Now I have to redo my touring plans, AGAIN! I guess I need something to do.

We just booked it for August 19th and it was available for all the days of our trip.
