All ears, Chicago: Mickey officially arrives in the Windy City today.
The beloved mouse - or 15 6-foot-tall polyurethane statutes of him - will be unveiled for a playful display along State Street, from Lake Street to Jackson Boulevard.
The statues, which will grace the city through July 20, were designed by Mickey Mouse's celebrity fans.
The unveiling is scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon today and will include family entertainment, games and giveaways.
Last November, on Mickey's 75th anniversary, 75 statues were unveiled at Disneyland to kick off "Celebrate Mickey: 75 InspEARations."
This month, the statues were shipped off in groups of 15 to Philadelphia, Boston, Denver, Portland and Chicago.
The brightly colored, globular statues, each weighing 700 pounds, are being carted cross country in 53-foot-long trailers, whose sides sport images of the statues and the phrase, "We're movin' Mickey!"
A few of the State Street statue designers are Gary Baseman, known for his illustrations in Time, Newsweek and The New Yorker, basketball star Kevin Garnett, talk show host Regis Philbin, undersea artist Wyland and Brian Matson of Marshall Field's.
Matson's Mickey wears the famous minty stripes of Fields. Regis' shows his Notre Dame pride by creating a Fighting Irish superfan mouse. Wyland's statue aptly wears a mask and snorkel.
The Mickey statutes will reunite next year in New York City, where they will be auctioned for charities hand-picked by the artists.
