Hi there! we're looking to go sometimes this Spring and was wondering if you could give me some hotel info and anything else? DH and I have never been, but we will be going with DF who has gone, but never stayed on the island itself. we WILL be staying on the island.

Thanks any and all info would be appreciated!

Price isn't that big of a deal, we've stayed cheap and we've stayed luxury before, so no biggie, BUT we do have 2 children that are 1 & 2

Thanks!!

Take a look at Main Street Inn and Suites. I think it's a new place on the Island and it looks nice on the website. I've never stayed on Mackinac Island, but everyone says it is fun to be there after all the tourists leave for the evening. I don't have the website, but just Google it.

Have fun.

mission pointe or the grand hotel there are a few B&B 'S no air lights out early .
enjoy

it's been a long time since we have stayed on the island, but we stayed at Murray hotel. They have awesome turtle fudge!

I would not recommend Mission Point at this time due to numerous changes in management.

I do second the suggestion for Main Street Inn and Suites. Fabulous place to stay!

I've posted this on previous threads and it may be helpful:

On the Island, I highly recommend staying at the Main Street Inn and Suites. We had the deluxe interior room (no window, but a skylight) and loved it even though it was the smallest room and the least expensive.

I do not recommend Mission Point Resort to stay at, although I can recommend their breakfast buffet (approx. $13/person). We were just there in October 2006 and with recent changes in management, it was not a pleasant stay.

I posted this information regarding the Island last year, so I'll post it again if it will help with planning:

This link brings you to bike rental shops:
http://www.mackinac.com/content/services/rentals.html
I rented an adult bike with a tag-along for my son and we biked the 8.3 miles around the Island with no problem. My son is 10 years, with special needs, so that should give you some idea of the ease of the perimeter of the island. It takes approximately 1 hour to bike the perimeter peddling almost the entire time. We rented from a store called Del Ray Sol (I believe that's the name) and paid $11 for the hour for both the adult bike and tag-along. A deposit is left at the time you take the bikes, which is only charged to your account if you do not return the bicycles. Most of the bike rentals will provide helmets for the children. Tandems, child carriers, child seats, and tag-alongs can be rented at the various rental places along Main Street.

If you want to ride a horse, Cindy's Stables do a nice job. My daughter rode for an hour with a guide, helmet included, and had a very gentle horse. The fee was $30. I would recommend an earlier morning ride, as the horses aren't as tired. http://www.cindysridingstable.com/
You can rent a drive-your-own horse and buggy here: http://www.jacksliverystable.com/
I believe it's approximately $60/hour for a family of four and its a nice way to see some of the island.
You can also take a Carriage Tour of the island. http://www.mict.com/
Private tours will cost $80 for a family of four for an hour, and they usually bring you up and around the road in front of the Grand Hotel and then along the homes on the West Bluff.

You may not enter the Grand Hotel unless you are a guest or pay a fee of $12.

The Butterfly House is a nice place for the children. It's small, but they will let you return as many times as you wish while you are on the island. We were there for three days and we had about four trips to the Butterfly House. http://www.originalbutterflyhouse.com/

The Fort is really neat. If you plan on being in the area for a few days, you can get a Family Heritage pass for $59 that will allow you access to Fort Mackinac on the island, as well as Colonial Michilimackinac, the Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse and Mill Creek in Mackinaw City.

Ferries are all pretty much the same price. Adults run $19-20, while children are about half price. The ferries that run are the Arnold Line, the Star, and Shepler's. Ferries take approximately 20 minutes, with Arnold running catamarans and the Star line runs the ferries that shoot up a "rooster tail". Each ferry line has their own website and I believe all of them have coupons on their website for buy two adult tickets and get a child's ticket free or $9-10 off a third adult ticket.

As for restaurants on the island, I would not give a good review for Patrick Sinclair's Irish Pub. The food portion was tiny and the service was below par. Goodfellows at the Lakeview Hotel had pretty good pizza, as did 3 Brothers Sarducci on Main Street. Prices for both pizzas ran approximately $22 for a large with three items. Village Inn has fairly decent food. Nothing spectacular, but good. There is also a coupon at Restaurant. com for the Village Inn. Yankee Rebel Tavern is a really nice place also. Fast food places are abundant on the island offering burgers and chicken tenders. These will mostly run you about $5-6 dollars. Scalawags and Darrows in Mackinaw City are a must-do for whitefish and pie, respectively.

And finally, some photos of Mackinac Island. The first three were taken in June 2006 and the remaining photos taken in October 2006.

Yes, they really do transport the luggage this way!

I don't know it all, but we usually spend 2-4 days up there a few times a year and I'll be happy to help you out with specifics.

My favorite fudge is Rybas. The last time we were on the Island which was last year they had Strawberry fudge that was soooo good. I wish I would have gotten more than just one bar of it. Though the Pistashio is my favorite! Yum!

I've never stayed on the island. We usually stay in Mackinac City, so I have no hotel suggestions, but have fun. :) I would like to take a short weekend trip up there some time this summer.

Oh and I more thing, most of the Island doesn't open up until the first weekend in May. There is some stuff that is open before that, but not much.

WOW!! thanks for the pics and the information!! i'm getting really excited!!
I hope to do some biking, but i have to get the OK from my OB! it shouldn't be a problem though! We have been looking fwd to this trip since last year and those pictures are just amazing!!

I think we are staying for about 3 nights, we have not settled anything for sure yet though!

If you haven't found this website already, it will give you any and all information about Mackinac Island:
www.mackinac.com

I think we're heading up there in May for the weekend. Enjoy!

haha! Yup i'm on that site right now so that i can pull up info as people suggest hotels :) i just e-mailed my DF the link too :)

Have fun in MAy!!

It looks like the forts open up on May 7 this year. So that will be when most everything else opens up.

My sister and I enjoyed Horn's Gaslight Bar and Yankee Rebel Tavern.

We're doing Disney in May, so i'm not sure exactly when we are looking to do Mackinac :) is there a good time?

My personal opinion is that mid-September to very early October is the perfect time for the Island. Great fall color and lower rates.

July and August, especially on the weekends, are the busiest times and we usually avoid these months.

If cost is really not a concern, you really should look into the Grand Hotel. I didn't stay there myself, but my parents stayed there when they went without me and really liked it.

thanks for the season info and we have been looking at the Grand, but the 5 course dinner turns me off simply b/c the kids are soo young and fidgety! haha! TS at WDW is traumatic for us!
