Mac Quest Question/Travel Bag

My wife and I purchased a Maclaren Quest just about one month ago and we both love the stroller. However, I am concerned about the stroller with the airlines. We will be gate checking it possibly however even a short travel to the cargo hold in an airplane can be devestating to an item (as they seem to get thrown around).

My question is: How durable is the Mac Quest to such torture? Would it be wise to purchase a travel case specifically made for this model?

Thanks!

Our Maclaren made many trips to Disney, we referred to it as our Disney stroller. Never was there any damage when we did a gate check. We gave that one away to a family member when we purchased a new Mac Quest (we liked the color) (yes DH went for that one) anyway, we never used a stroller bag and we were just fine. Maclaren does make one for $50.00 or so.

One more thing, when we did a gate check we wrapped a colorful bungie cord aound it, just to be sure it would not accidently open.

We bought a stroller bag that was padded from Target.com for our Quest. I would die if I spent that much money on a stroller and the airlines trashed it. I've read here that people have had stollers in bags get mixed up with golf clubs and put onto the belt. I bought bright fabric paint and wrote "stroller" on each side of the bag so hopefully it won't get mixed up!

with our maclaren quest stroller, we've been from san diego to hawaii twice, sacramento once, and san jose once. each time the stroller was gate checked. no damage at all. no bag or bungee cord.

Our Quest has survived MANY plane trips with no damage. I wouldn't bother with a separate travel bag. It makes it more likely that your stroller will be routed to baggage claim, rather than the gate. The bags won't provide much protection from physical damage. If the handlers decide to pitch your stroller off the jetway onto the concrete below, a bag isn't going to save it. If you want to minimize the dirt and grease that can get onto it, buy a heavy duty clear plastic garbage bag and bag it at the end of the jetway.

I just bought my Quest last week and I already love it, I would be horrified if it was damaged on the plane!

I would say buy a bag, we intend to if we can find a padded one for cheap (probably off ebay!) and wait until the last minute before checking it. My friend has used her stroller twice this way and never come across any damage (although that was only a short haul flight!)
