Is there any information about what happens on August 15?

We will be in WDW at that time and wonder if anyone worth seeing would be out-and-about.

I had heard that Tom Hanks and Gary Sinese (sp) might be around. Any truth to this? (Do they have some connection to the ride?)

Gary Sinise is your 'mission controller' on the ride and he is featured quite prominently. As for Tom Hanks, I know he's a fan of all things space, but he's not connected with any aspects of the ride (at least those that are visible to guests).

I doubt they'll do anything special on the 15th. While that is the official opening date, the press event and dedication ceremony won't be until October, when they can get greater exposure.

Is it going to be totally mobbed on the 15th?- I'll be at WDW all that week and the 15th is my last day. I'm a huge thrill ride fan and would love to experience it.

Can anyone hazard a guess as to wait times for this ride on the 15th?
Is there a single rider line? (my husband hates thrill rides, the kids are too young, so I'll be on my own).
What are my chances of riding earlier in the week?

I would venture to guess that it would be fairly crowded on the 15th. Disney is sort-of promoting this date, so there could very well be a large chunk of people there.

There is a single-rider line for "Mission:Space," as well as FastPass, so there are ways to avoid the big lines this will inevitably (and deservedly) have.

I was there last week and rode it. It is normally open on weekdays after 3:30, so if you want to avoid the crowd that's the way to do it. We waited maybe 5 minutes at the most.

The official opening is August 15. October is just when they are having the press event and dedication ceremony.
