Yes; that includes paper, not just coins. I think you can overpay; i.e., pay for a $4.50 day pass with a $5 bill.

There appear to be options to order paper tickets online, and to purchase electronic tickets thru a smart phone app. I haven't tried either of these options. There are links near the bottom of this page.
