We have a lunch hole to fill. Right now we're looking at San Angel,Mama Melrose, Whispering Canyon, and Trail's End. Any reviews or additional suggestions would be welcome

First question would be where will you be that day.

We always enjoy a nice lunch at Kona Cafe if we are at Magic Kingdom, it' a nice break in the day or the Grand Floridian Cafe at the Grand Floridian.

If you are in Epcot that day, I would pick a country that interests you and go for that.

If you are in Hollywood Studio's we really like Mama Melrose's or if you don't do a full day there, a late lunch somewhere in DTD is good, I would recommend Wolfgang Puck Express.

If you are at Animal Kingdom, we really, really enjoy Yak and Yeti.

If you are on a break day, I highly recommend picking a resort you have never been to and eating there. It's always fun to go exploring.

Enjoy your trip.

Granted it has been 10 years since I went, but at the time I did not like Mama Melrose's. I might just be spoiled because there is really good Italian food where I'm from, but I found it bland, uninspiring and overpriced for what it was. Frankly I have not had great luck with food at sit-down restaurants at DHS. At AK, we had the lunch buffet at Tusker House and it was incredible. The only problem was that we ate so much we dragged for awhile due to being full. We solved that by getting the Nemo musical tickets they give you when you make reservations at certain times so we could sit down some place cool while we "recovered". :)

We love both San Angel Inn and Whispering Canyon Cafe.

So I would choose either of those, depending on where you will be.

San Angel Inn is a wonderful experience. The atmosphere is very romantic and relaxing. You dine inside the mexican pavillion, but the restaurant is set up to look like you are outside, so the stars are shining down on you. You also dine next to the "river" which is the boat ride inside the pavillion.
Which is so cool. Food is good too. Salsa was a bit hot for me when we ate there, but it was still tasty.

WCC also has a good atmosphere, but it is opposite of SAI. WCC is "wild", a bit loud and fun for kids (and large kids...aka adults).
The servers do antics with you like at Primetime 50's in DHS.
The food is very good as well. The all you can eat bbq skillet is fabulous. And I haven't had a bad steak there yet.

So it would be hard to choose, such different foods and atmospheres. I would go with whichever is closer to where you would be.

Have a good trip!!

Have to agree with Tinker'n'fun. For me it totally depends on where we will be that day. It wastes a LOT of your time to leave a park for lunch and then return to the same park (an exception might be lunch at a monorail resort when you're at MK). But if this will be a non-park day for you, or you are returning to your resort after lunch for nap/pool time, then it could be fun to eat at one of the other resorts. We almost always eat lunch in the park we are in for the day, or at the most convenient restaurant on a non-park day.

I have to agree with everyone else...it totally depends on where you plan to be for the day.

Some of our favorite "lunch" places:

Magic Kingdom:
-Liberty Tree Tavern (their menu for lunch is much better and more diverse than their set dinner menu).
-Grand Floridian Cafe or Kona if we you want a quick break from the crowds at Magic Kingdom but not separate yourself too much

Epcot:
Pick a country, any country...they are all great. San Angel gets mixed food reviews, but it has the best atmosphere (outside of maybe Sci Fi) of all the restaurants on property, imo.

DHS:
Either 50s Prime Time or Sci Fi are great lunching spots, imo.

Animal Kingdom:
Yak and Yeti is GREAT! Highly recommend it.

Depends on where you are going to be.

We love San Angel and Mama Melrose. We used to love Whispering Canyon; however, our last two visits were a bit of a disappointment. Trails End would be okay if you are looking for a buffet.

If you are in the DTD area, we love Wolfgang Puck Express. It is, unbelievably, a counter service restaurant, but you get TS quality (if not better!). Great deal if you are on the dining plan (1 CS); however, would consider it expensive if you are pay OOP.

If your in DHS, i'd pick Sci Fi over Mama melrose to be honest. Lovely atmosphere. So much fun! Great ribs & shakes too!!! :thumbsup2
