Lunch Outside of Animal Kingdom

We're going to be at WDW in a couple of weeks, and my parents will be coming to pick up my 2 year old daughter while we're there. We'll be at Animal Kingdom that day, and are looking to have us meet them for lunch somewhere outside of the park and then head out after lunch so she can nap in the car.

I'm assuming the resort restaurants would all be options. How about Rainforest Cafe? Do you have to enter the park to go there, or is it on the public side of the "rope?" If the resorts are our only option, how close are they to the park entrance?

You can do Rainforest without entering the park but I'd recommend Sanaa at AKV. The restaurant has Indian inspired food (not too spicy) and offers views of animals on the savannah. It's a 5 minute bus ride for AK. The food is much better than RFC IMO, the atmosphere is not nearly as chaotic.

Sanaa is one of the best casual dining spots at WDW.

Re: Rainforest cafe at AK: yes you can enter the restauraunt from outside the park (there is an entrance on the parking lot side), so it would be possible to meet them there. You and your party can enter from the park side. Just remember to get your hand stamped before you leave if you will be going back to the park after lunch.

Or if you want a longer break, you could meet them at AKL for lunch (take the bus there and back). Sanaa serves lunch if you want TS, or you could eat at Mara for CS.

It does, yes, thanks to both of you for the responses. One other follow-up question: if we just wanted to do a quick picnic-style lunch, is there anywhere outside of AK where we could do that? We have a large party (12 people), and I'm finding that getting reservations anywhere to be an exercise in futility, and if we're not going to be doing a TS thing, a picnic that doesn't involve us getting onto a bus might be a better option.
