I may have messed up. ADR for 12:25 at Chef Mickey's for our family including our 6-yr and 4-yr old. A) what food is served at that time, B) will we be seeing any characters?

Also, what is meant when folks refer to "free dining."

(1st timer? Yes I am.:) )

Thanks!

Welcome! Disney offers 3 tiered dining plans that include meal "credits" which are attached to your resort key and can be used to purchase meals. You basically can prepay for a set number of meal credits over your length of stay. Each tier goes up in price and includes more meals and snacks. You can read about the plans on the www.wdwinfo.com site so I won't go into a lot of detail. When Disney offers "free dining" they are giving you the meal plans for free but only in conjunction with a full price package usually the rack rate ie. the highest price they would charge for that room for the low, regular, high season, etc. In addition you usually have to add at least a 1 day admission ticket to the package and everyone in the room has to have the same package (tickets and dining plan participation). Free dining is a highly anticipated promotion for Disney fans. My family has had it twice, once as a special pin code Disney emailed to us and the other time when it was offered to the general public. It was nice to be able to order what we wanted off the menus and only have to pay for tips and alcohol. Food on Disney property can be very expensive especially if you don't have a car and have to eat every meal on property. The dining plans are supposed to save you upwards of 20% over what you'd pay out of pocket for meals without the plan credits on your card. Sorry for the long explanation but I wasn't sure how much you knew! Disney is a great place to vacation and can offer some good values for families. Hope you have a great time if you go! By the way the travel agents at Dreams Unlimited - the travel agency which sponsors the boards - are great to work with and could go into better detail about the different plans. There is no guarantee Disney will offer it but the general public promotion is usually offered in the low season - late August through September.

They usually don't serve lunch, except certain days during free dining (Aug/Sept). Do you already have an ADR, and for when?

I used to work at the Contemporary resort and it seemed like they served quite early; I worked in the shops upstairs so saw it every day.

If you have a reservation you should be fine ... I wouldn't worry too much. I think your family will enjoy it; I love the Contemporary resort!
