Hello!

I need some advice about lunches near the MK. We are staying on-site for the first time (yay!) and I want to make ADRs at one of the resorts that can be reached by monorail so we can have a mid-day break that won't take us too far from the park. Is there any particular restaurant that is good for a sit-down lunch at the MK resorts? We are totally open as to the type of food. :)

The the POLY via monorail:
Ohana with Lilo and Stitch, or Kona Cafe.

Chef Mickey at the Contemporary via monorail.

The Grand Floridian Cafe via monorail

We love Kona at the Poly. They have a diverse menu, the best coffee at WDW, and the grounds are beautiful to stroll through. And if you want you can take a boat back to MK.

Ohana at the Poly is served family style, but I believe the characters are only there for breakfast.

check out menus on this forum (click "Dining" above) or look at allears.net for the menus. Neither place is always completely up to date, but will give you an idea of types of food & prices typically on the menus.

We really enjoyed Grand Floridian Cafe for lunch...Kona Cafe at the Polynesian is good too. Chef Mickey's food is OK (not great) but you do get the characters & there is variety (It's at the Contemporary) We much prefer the food at The Wave (Contemporary.) If you're just wanting sandwiches and an air-conditioned break while at Magic Kingdom, The Plaza restaurant is usually not hard to get a reservation on short notice. You could also take the Wilderness Lodge boat from Magic Kingdom and go eat at Whispering Canyon Cafe

'ohana is not open for lunch...it's a character meal for breakfast and then the all you can eat grilled stuff for dinner (no characters, but vaguely Polynesian entertainment for the kids.)

I will third (or fourth) Kona Cafe as the best lunch choice on the monorail loop.

Kona at the Poly is the best lunch on the monorail IMO but The Wave in the Contemporary is also very good and I would choose there for dinner.

Even though it's a counter service location and not a table service restaurant, I would highly recommend the Contempo Cafe at the Contemporary. When you compare it to other counter service locations they are not your standard Burgers, Hot Dogs and etc place to eat at. Their menu is more upscail for a counter service location and their Salads are made fresh each time you order them, so they are not pre-made and put inside a fridge.

I'd say Kona at the Poly or The Wave at the Contemporary are good choices. If you're looking for good CS places on the monorail loop, Capt. Cook's at the Poly and Contempo Cafe at the Contemporary are good.

Depends on who you are traveling with-if you have younger kids then I would say chef mickeys the characters are great but im not positive if they serve lunch?

If they don't then anything at the poly is great-its so beautiful there and all the food is great!!

Chef Mickey's is not currently open for lunch. It has been served at times as a pilot during the past year.

I would look at Grand Floridian Cafe for lunch, too. The menu looked really good to me.

I agree with this! Yum!
The turkey sandwich with brie and apple slices was so good! as were the fresh chips!

Thanks everyone! I looked over the menus and I think I am going to go with Kona. I have never been to the Poly and I have wanted to see it. :)

Kona has the best lunch and the Poly is pretty much deserted around lunchtime so it is very quiet

Grand Floridian Cafe. It's easily the best lunch value on the monorail loop for a table service restaurant, and it's one of the best values in all of Disney property.

Very good food at fair prices. Well, you know, fair for Disney World, of course. I highly recommend the Grand Floridian Burger. It's amazing.
