Can anyone tell me if it is possible to have the new Disney feature where you check your lugguage in and Disney handles getting it to your resort for you? I know this is a new feature(part of Disney my way) but the thing is we will be renting a car and not taking the transportaion. I just thought it might save us time and hassle because we all know how long it takes at Orlando Int. to get luggage. We have waited over an hour before.

I've NEVER waited that long for my luggage to show up on the carousel. I would say that the longest we've waited for our luggage to show up is maybe 10 min after we get to the carousel and it took maybe 10 - 15 min to get to the carousel from the gate. We always rent a car too. I would get my own luggage and take it in the rental car. Why risk it getting lost buy allowing another set of hands to handle it.

I agree about the time it takes to get your luggage. MCO is very quick compared to some. I usually wait about 10-15 mins.

I don't think you can send your luggage on the bus unless you are using the bus.

I don't know much yet about the new things going on at WDW, but, if our luggage is lucky enough to arrive when we arrive, I don't let it out of my sight! We have never had to wait for our luggage, either. By the time we make a restroom stop and get downstairs, our luggage is coming out.

Magical Express will not allow inbound "luggage only" service. If you want Disney's Magical Express service to take care of your luggage, Disney mandates that you must ride on a Magical Express motor coach.

Magical Express is free. What would they do if you signed up, put the special tags on your luggage but didn't bother to board the bus and rented a car? Ship your luggage back to the airport?

I doubt the people pulling the luggage have a list of pax who boarded the bus.

Good question. I don't know the answer, but I bet Disney has thought of something.

Disney doesn't want to pay to handle your luggage if you're renting a car.

The Magical Express program is costing Disney a bundle. But the plan is that Magical Express guests won't have rental cars (and probably won't bother to rent cars after they get to WDW), so those guests will spend more money on site.

I'm sure that there will be a computerized cross reference between Magical Express reservations, luggage tags, motor coach rides, and room check-ins. After all, they have to know what room to send the luggage to. I assume they'll know if they scanned your luggage tag but didn't scan your motor coach ticket. What will they do about it? I don't know. But, again, I bet they've thought of something.

In the future Disney may charge for Magical Express but while it's free there isn't much they can do.

Shipping your luggage back to the airport or charging you because you only use part of a free service won't work. If you order a complete dinner in a restuarant but skip dessert the restaurant doesn't try to force you to eat the rest of your meal. I know people who have cruise transfers who drop off their luggage but then skip the bus and take a cab. They get to the cruise ship faster and find it more relaxing.

I guess they might cancel your return Magical Express but it really wouldn't be worth the complaints they'd get.

Our luggage shows up within minutes of my family getting to the luggage area in Orlando (I go get the rental then) Here in Albany, NY the luggage is a lot slower than in Florida.

According to the Magical Express FAQ for Travel Agents in the thread http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=703882:
<blockquote>Can a Guest book a “luggage only” transfer?
No. </blockquote>
I can't think of a good way that they can enforce this rule either, but I have to believe that Disney will figure out something.

Otherwise, folks on the Internet will spread the word on how to outsmart Disney with regard to Magical Express -- how to have Disney pay the luggage handling service, while you keep the freedom to spend you money wherever you want. ("You can bypass baggage claim and get your rental car right away! And you can get a smaller, cheaper car because you don't have to worry about having a trunk that's big enough to hold all your bags! And then you can dine and shop offsite whenever you want!")

All that says is you can't book or reserve luggage only not that you can't do it. Even if Disney makes you get your own luggage and drop it off, which would take away from the program, are they going to make you board the bus at gunpoint?

If too many people skip the bus Disney may re-think the program or start charging for it.

The reality is people could simply rent a car when they get to Disney or have one person take the bus and everyone else take the rental car. I suspect most people are going to skip the rental car to save money or just rent it at Disney for a day or two.

Since Disney will never publically say they are running this program to keep you onsite they really limited to what they can do to someone who decides to only use part of this free service.

Well I guess they could abandon it. The imagineers can take it from there.

There is always someone, that insists on trying to screw up something good.

Sorry to disappoint you but I was not trying to screw up something good as you put it. We would gladly pay whatever the cost be for a service that is going to make our trip easier. We don't like wasting time that we could be using in the parks. Wasn't trying to do something sinister we just like getting the most time we can at the parks and fully expected that there would be a cost involved.

I don't really think a very small number of people who might use Magical Express to transfer their luggage but not take the bus will screw anything up. I'm sure Disney has already thought of this and if they care at all will just cancel the return transfer.

They can't hold a specific bus for PAX arriving on a given flight, some pax may stay in the airport to shop or grab a bite to eat.

Most people who are staying on site will just rent a car for a day or two.

I wouldn't be shocked if Disney started to charge for parking. Other Orlando hotels are. Bus for free or pay to park. Certainly a good way to discourage cars.

Hey, if you want to rent a car, rent it, what is 30 to 45 min to get your luggage?? Hardly a day at the parks. It will take you 20 min to get to the car rental counter, another 15 to get that all done, by then your bags are ready to pick up, so what are we wasting?
