Luggage/weight limit question.....

I'm planning on purchasing new luggage in the next couple of weeks for our upcoming trip in August. My dilemma is that we'll be gone for a total of 17 days which includes 10 days at WDW, 3 days at Universal, and 4 days in Miami and I'm trying to avoid having to do laundry while on vacation. The two sets that I like include 29", 26" and 22" pieces (plus tote bag). Now the 29" is perfect, should be no problem fitting all of my clothes in it. The problem is the 50 lb weight limit, I think I might exceed it if I only use the 29" bag. Should I cram all of my clothes in the 29" inch or divide the clothing between the 26" and 22" pieces? I plan on taking mostly shorts and tanks, one or two dresses, two pairs capri pants, walking shoes (which I'll be wearing on the plane on trip down), sandals, one pair of dressy shoes, undies, three sets of sleepwear (which I'll end up washing by hand). I'm not planning on taking anything denim, it weighs too much and takes up more room, so most of my clothing will be cotton or other light materials. Anything other than clothing such as toiletries, camera, etc. will of course go in the tote bag. I need advice from those of you who've taken long trips before I make my purchase. Laundry is your friend!

I am sorry, but trying to pack for three weeks in the summer would be next to impossible. I would just bite the bullet and do laundry! (Or find a coin laundry who will do it for you, I know there is one near Universal)

Also, it is not just the weight it's the size. Check with your airline to be sure the 29" is not too big. I think dividing is the way to go. I have watched way to many women trying to trundle luggage they can't carry.

Wow, I can't see how you will not do any laundry. We have 3 teenage ds and were only there for 10 days. Due to all the heat and humidity, they wanted a new shirt after swim/rest time. I just bring downy sheets and a roll of quarters and some small liquid or powder detergent. DH is great and helps me lug it to the laundry room. I have found out to get there as soon as your laundry room opens. The Poly laundry is always full whenever we go. I also don't like wearing a reused bathing suit, even if I wash it out in the sink/tub etc. Still reeks of chlorine.

I would scale down and do laundry. WDW makes it so easy to do a load or two while on vacation. With tanks and t's with a few pairs of shorts it could be quick and easy. Every WDW resort I have stayed at has the laundry close to a pool. Throw in a load, grab a book, drink of choice and a lounge chair. Wait 20 minutes and throw in the dryer. Then each member of the family shakes folds and puts their items away, could this work for you?

I don't know about your home airport but MCO requires you to check in and then bring your checked bags to the screening area and then back to the check in. (As of 11/03 on AA). I always travel light but I also travel alone with my dd's 6 and 8. I guess if you have enough people to help with the baggage and don't exceed the weight limit or # limit you could manage 17 days with no laundry. Actually I don't think we own enough to go 17 days without laundry - ymmv.
