Luggage tags

Our first Royal Caribbean cruise is getting close. I just took a look at the luggage tags that you print yourself. Any advice on the best way to do this? It just seems that self printed paper tags aren't water proof and will tear. Can you laminate them? Could you print on card stock rather than fold them over and over?

Do they give you new tags when you disembark?

Thanks for your input.

I print and fold them, and then cover them with strips of packing tape to 'laminate' them.

Its cheap and easy.

When we cruised FOS in March, I just hand-carried the tags down. We stayed in a hotel at the port the night before and the morning we checked out to head to the ship I just asked the desk clerk for a stapler and I stapled the tags around the handle.

The tags didn't rip or get torn off.

You get a different set of colored tags for disembarkation.

I take them to Staples and get them laminated. You can fit 3 or 4 luggage tags on one sheet. I think it was like $1.50 a sheet.

Cruise critic sells some plastic reusable sleeves for you luggage.

Amazon also has some nice leather tags that the royal paper tags will fit into. They are more expensive than the cruise critic ones but seem pretty sturdy, like they'll last a while like other leather luggage tags.

Personally, I'd just print them out and cover them with clear packing tape. Cheap and easy, and works like a charm. :)

If for some reason they get damaged in transit, the porters who take your luggage at the port always have extra tags on them, so they can replace your damaged ones - you'll just have to write the room number in.

They do give you different tags for disembarkation.

My printer was messed up and I printed nothing. Got to the port, the porters had tons of tags, we put our info on them quickquick, and it was all good.

That's exactly what I do.

Funny story. Last September when I took two of my kids on a cruise, we drove to port so I just grabbed my good stapler from my home office and took it with us. Forgot about it.

I've been looking for that darned thing for months!! I found it yesterday in that little compartment between the seats. You know, the one you never really look in. Maybe I should just leave it there in anticipation of our next cruise. :rotfl:

Oddly enough this is one area where I haven't over thought my travel planning.

I would recommend keeping it very simple, no bells and whistles needed for luggage tags.

I just print them on my work laser printer in color, I would shy away from inkjet printers since that ink is messed up easily by water whereas laser ink is fairly tolerant if it gets slightly damp.

If you have any inclination that it will be raining between home and whenever you get support then I would just cover them in clear packing tape as has been mentioned.
