Luggage service

We are checking in at 8am on 5/11 at POR. We have never left our luggage before. How do we request luggage services to take our luggage to our room? Do we pay them inadvance? What about tips?

A lot will depend on whether or not your room is ready for you. If it is, then luggage assistence people can take it to your room for you. We generally tip $2 per bag when they get to the room.
If your room isn't ready, you can leave it with the luggage assistence people and then give them a call when you are able to get into your room, later in the day. Again...a few bucks per bag when they are delivered is the norm.

Another question...how are you arriving at the resort? If you are arriving on DME, no tipping is involved if you have tagged your checked bags.

If you are not using Magical Express, you leave your luggage with the Bell desk. Then, when you are actually assigned your room, go to your room and call Bell Services and ask them to bring your luggage up. I tip $1 a bag.

We check in and take our luggage to the luggage counter and then later in the day we will call down and request our luggage then we just tip per bag. Is there certain hours that they are available to bring the luggage? Do they bring it right up or should I plan time to wait for them to bring it?

At Riverside, I doubt you will even have to take your luggage into the lobby. Bell Services will be outside to help you. If someone doesn't come over right away, just go over to the podium outside and ask for help. It's really easy. And they will take everything if you want them to. They even take coolers and cases of beer (although they might ask where the party is later and if they can join you!).

There aren't certain hours for Bell Services. Just call down whenever you get back and in your room. Your wait time will be less than a half hour at Riverside.

Values have a more limited Luggage Assistance service. Then you might have to wait over an hour for your luggage.

General tipping guidelines are to tip upon the arrival of your luggage and not at the taking away.

When you get your room you call down to bell services to bring up your luggage. They will give you a slip of paper when checking in the luggage. We tip at both ends but that is up to you There will be two people handling your luggage once when check in unless you take it there yourselves. Then the person who delivers it to your room OPPS sorry copied wrong post <smiles>

1) Moderate bellmen are the same as Deluxe bellmen.
2) Call to request your luggage from storage.
3) You must be in the room to accept luggage.
4) I go along with the accepted U.S.A. tipping standards

. . . $2 minimum, if you have just one bag

NOTE: DME luggage is taken to the room without you having to be present. By union contract, the bellmen are paid a preset service fee (to compensate for no tip from the guest) per room to deliver DME luggage. The service fee has already been built into the DME pricing. DME luggage delivered by non-bellmen are not given the service fee.
