I have a few questions on luggage. Its been forever (2000) since I have flown and I am unsure of a few things. Any help you amazing disboarders can give will be great.

1. My family of 7 has luggage tags from Disney for our bags. Do I need to inform them how many I am actually using? I think I am going to have no more then 4 bags, but don't want them looking for 7 because that is what they sent tags for.

2. Do you use a suitcase only? Meaning I know my husband was thinking of using a great duffle bag that we have, I said no as there is no way to secure it closed. So I am wondering do i need to borrow suitcases so all our "stuff" is in one or would other bags be good? Just for the checked. We are flying on Jetblue

Thank you for your help.

You don't have to let them know how many bags you are bringing, Disneys people just collect all the bags with their yellow tags on them and then sort them to which resort they go to. As far as a duffle bag, I have seen a lot of them on the carousel, so I wouldn't say don't use one. You can't secure (or lock) your bags for security reasons. The airport will just cut off any lock you put on your bag to get in.

When you check in for ME, you are normally asked how many bags you checked. This way ME knows that if they don't have all the bags for your reservation, they should start looking and start the process with your airline for a missing bag.

I don't know if I would use a duffle bag as a checked piece of luggage, but I have seen others do it. We do carryon only, and use three duffle bags as our luggage. I love them because you can stuff so much stuff in them and they're easy to store in the overhead bins. They are a pain to lug through the airport though...especially when DS is too small to carry his.

This is true. I guess I was just thinking of letting them know ahead of time before going.

Never heard of them. I'm sure not to many infrequent fliers have either.
There are all kinds of locks. Simply google (or search your favorite store) for 'TSA approved luggage locks'.

Also, just because you use another lock doesn't automatically mean it will get cut off. It only will if it gets randomly picked for screening.

Personally, we don't use locks because that's one less key to deal with (or combination to remember), and we don't put valuables in our checked luggage.

I don't put valuables in my checked luggage either, but I use a lock so that my luggage will stay closed.

I'm not certain that checked bags get opened randomly. Checked bags will get opened when the Airport Security Screener spots something suspicious or when it alarms in one of the automated screening units.

If I was that concerned about it, I'd use zip ties and put some kind of cutters in an outside pocket of the suitcase.

We've used a duffle bag on many trips. Granted, it was an LL Bean duffle, so pretty good quality, but we haven't had an issue with it opening.
I never put locks on my bags. I also don't pack anything I can't afford to lose in my checked bags either.

Maybe not, but they have been available for many years. I would hope that an infrequent flyer would check the TSA website before flying to familiarize themselves with security rules. The locks are discussed there. They are also included with a lot of luggage sold today and are sold everywhere.

I try not to check bags, but when I do, I don't lock them.

And frequent flyers know these things are worthless.

1. If the TSA can open them so can anyone else (do a YouTube search )

2. If the TSA doesn't feel like opening them the right way they will just destroy your zipper to get in and claim the lock broke

3. A lock makes the thief think you might have something they want.

I have never checked in at DME desk at MCO. If you have your blue mickey book or Bands you go right to the CM at the podium and then to the bus lines. If you need to go to Desk just go on up and tell them what you have.
