My cruise is getting very close and I am starting to worry that my two luggages will not be enough for all my stuff. Has anyone purchased those roll-up cosmetic bags that hang up on a door? I am thinking one of those would leave a lot of extra room in my luggage for clothes and less worry about leaking on clothes and wrinkles. Anyone recommend one or a good place to buy quality luggage at a decent price?????

If you aren't planning on doing a lot of travelling for the next five or more years, I wouldn't try to buy the best luggage in the world. As time goes on they come out with newer and better options, and you'll just want to replace it.

JC Penney's has decent luggage at affordable prices. I bought a three piece set for under $100 about five years ago, it's earned close to 100,000 FF miles, and it still looks brand new.

If you buy Louis Vittan or Tumi you'll constantly be worried about it being damaged or stolen. (Although I have a Tumi breifcase that I've had for 15 years now and wouldn't trade for the world!)

Just my two cents.

Due to the weight of hardsided luggage and the fact that they had locks (Samsonite), I changed to softsided with zippers and will use those plastic things to lock it - that way they can be cut off it someone wants to inspect my luggage.

I am putting most everything in plastic ziplock, storage bags just in case they want to inspect it. I don't relish the idea of someone touching my personal things with their hands. YUCK!

Target!! They have nice luggage for a really good price. Every once and awhile they'll have specials. I purched a three piece rolling set with matching carry-on last year for $69! Can't beat it. Looks nice but won't devistate you if it gets scratched up. I can't wait to use it for our cruise.

You might also try the warehouse stores, i.e. Sam's or Costco. I bought some Samsonite really nice luggage, for much less than anywhere else. It is soft sided, and the kind that rolls really well.

We flew out of Atlantic City International for our recent 4-night Wonder cruise.

At ACY, since they don't have the new x-ray machines, all "checked" luggage is hand inspected (they do it right in front of you).

I packed everything that I could in those new 2-gallon clear zip-loc bags. The inspector said that that was a great idea. It made the inspection much easier.

What they actually do is "wipe" everything in your suitcase with a special piece of chemically treated paper that (I think) detects explosives.

Inside of my suitcase I included a few extra cable ties (in a different color) attached to a large note that said: "if this luggage is opened for inspection - please re-secure with these cable ties"

...Which to my surprise, They did !

Don't take too much... as others have wisely said: "pack your suitcase, wait a day, take out half and then go on your vacation."

I bought a roll-up cosmetic bag that hangs on the door from Mary Kay. It is wonderful and I even use it at home.

Ross or Marshalls usually has excellent prices on Luggage. My sister just bought the 26" rolling suitcase that matched the rest of her Samsonite set at Ross yesterday for $59.99. Keep in mind that the original price is $115-125 for the same case.

Also check out your local Mervyns' clearance section. They usually do markdowns on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Mom has come home from work a couple of times with a huge suitcase that was only 10-20 dollars.

Lastly, yard sales. My DD found a great Samsonite 21" Rolling suitcase at the church rummage sale last week. She only paid $3.00 for it. She has since "personalized" it with glitter fabric paints and stencils. She said that since almost everybody in the world had a black suitcase, they wouldn't accidentally take hers now. It has Roses, hearts, and flags on it now.

Big Lots (formerly Pic N Save) has pretty good prices on luggage also.

EMT 319 - cable ties! That's what they are called. I think it was a great idea for you to put that note in with them. I am certain most people would be honest but there are some (as we have seen on those spy videos who aren't!) But I like the idea of the note.

Walmart has 5-piece sets for $79 (regular price) in the stores. They are the Azur collection by Moda. Includes a 29-inch vertical pullman (18-1/2"L x 11-1/2"W x 28"H), 26-inch vertical pullman (17-1/2"L x 10-1/2"W x 25"H), 21-inch pilot case (15"L x 10"W x 20-1/2"H), 15-inch travel tote (13-1/2"L x 5"W x 10"H) and toiletry case (9"L x 4"W x 5"H).

You can buy this online too at walmart.com. Also check if you have a K-Mart going out of business in your area. A Kmart nearby had equivalent sets going for $39 (50% clearance). I picked up a nice suitbag for less than $10!

Love those "going out of business" and "clearance" sales, but will sure miss the K-Mart store!

AAA can be a prett good place as well.

Hi Ann.

I am starting to worry that my two luggages will not be enough for all my stuff.

If you can't fit your wardrobe in two pieces of luggage, perhaps you should leave something at home? Unless you're planning to move permanently onto the Magic (or Wonder), you might want to consider leaving some of your clothes in Michigan...

Buckaroo's Dad,
You are probably right about wanting to take too much...but the idea of moving onto the Magic does sound tempting!

I see you are in MI are you close to Galbrelter center?? (if it still exsist) a big swap meet/flea market?
I bought a 6 pc. simi-soft sided with in-line scate wheels, retractible pull handles from the carry-on size to a monster (hold all my, my DW, & DS's stuffand still stays under the weight limit, for 79$ at a park-n-swap in AZ last time I was there, I know Galbrelter center has the same kind ofg stuff, its gone an at least 10 flights so far with no damage yet:D

It's a good idea to get a nesting set. That way you can put all the bags inside the largest one & put it under the bed. You may have to lift up the side of the bed first, then slide it under.

I have to say that 2 suitcases should be plenty for one person, if you're just talking about yourself. Try for mix & match stuff!
