Hi,

I have a luggage question. Flying question.

Does everyone who has a ticket get to bring one carry on and one checked bag? For some reason I thought someone told me that adults get to check a bag but they didn't say kids do. We have four kids and I am hoping that I heard wrong. I don't know how to pack six people's stuff into two checked bags! :rotfl2: We did buy our tickets back in Jan/Feb before all of this checked baggage fee stuff started hitting the fans.

Each kid can bring a small bag/backpack onto the plane, correct?

It's really the checked bag info that I'm confused on. I know someone hear knows what can really be done.

Thanks for the help! :yay:

Each ticket is allowed the same items. So my DD takes her carryon with her and I check 1 bag with all her clothes for her. Dh and I do the same.

Thank goodness!!!! I really must not have heard correctly when I was told the carry on rules.

A lot LESS pressure trying to pack up now. :rotfl:

Thank you!

They may have been referring to "lap children". If you have a child under the age of two for whom you didn't buy a ticket (i.e. they are going to be sitting on your lap), you don't get baggage allowance for them (carry-on or checked), though some airlines don't count a diaper bag against your allowance.

Everyone who has their own ticket (and seat) gets both checked* and carry-on luggage.

*Depending on the airline, you might have to pay for your second or even first checked bag, but there is no difference between children and adults.

To the bolded...be sure you check with your airline on the fess you pay though. We're flying United in December, and even though they upped the fee for a 2nd checked bag after we bought our tickest, we would still only have to pay the $25 for the second checked bag. I have print outs of who has to pay what baggage fess based on when the tickets were purchased AND when you travel by.

Please keep in mind that the fees the PP referred to to are the 1st and 2nd checked bags per 1 individual seat.

Every seat gets a first checked bag at the 1st bag rate. If you have 4 bags and 4 seats, each person pays $15/per bag, not 1 bag @ $15 and then the other 3 bags@ $25.

Also - check with your airlines, but carseats and strollers that are checked also do not count against your baggage allowance.

I flew American to St. Louis last week and they did not charge me for the large bag with my carseats. (We have a large duffel that can hold 2 Cosco high-back convertible boosters and an umbrella stroller with ease.) It did mean that I had to go in to an agent to check my bags, as the curbside attendants could not do check in the free bag.

Holy guacamole - you pay the same price for the child's ticket as the adult's, so I would certainly hope that they can check two bags, too!

Well, few airlines these days allow even adults to check two bags without paying extra. However, you are correct - there is no distinction between the rules for children and the rules for adults.

We are flying jetblue and their policy is one free checked bag per ticket. All ticket holders can bring the same amount of checked baggage and carry on, except lap children.

However if the tickets were purchused before March i believe you can bring two checked bags per ticket.
