I've been looking to book a 14 night trip to orlando at the end of november, flying from lgw. I've now noticed that the race of champions is on at wembley just as we would arrive back and would like to go to this but have a slight problem! I'm from john o'groats give or take 15 miles so have to fly from inverness/drive to lgw. The problem is on the return flight we will probably be making the most of our backage allowance allocated by virgin and so we have a big/expensive problem getting our stuff home. Flybe allow 23kgs when purchased but we might have twice this and the excessive luggage charges make this an expensive way of getting our stuff home. Is getting our luggage sent home from lgw by courier an option and has anybody tried anything similair? Are there any ways around the baggage excess's? Thanks for any info and sorry if i've missed something simple, sc.

The best way to avoid excess baggage fees on internal flights is to book your internal-international-internal flights as a through ticket (i.e. on the same itinerary). If you do that, you SHOULD get the international allowance for the internal flights too.

Couriering the extra baggage home from Orlando would probably be in the region of £150+ per case. You might be able to courier it home a bit cheaper from Gatwick/London, but think it would still be expensive. Have a look at http://www.dhl.co.uk/

I would guess that you best answer is to either drive or take the train (rather than flying).

Good luck,
Alice

hi should have made it clearer but the problem is we're wanting an overnight stay in london for the show before coming back home hence i can't use a through flight and therefore only need to get the bags back from lgw to home.
Might have to be a drive but its a good 10 hours at best, and i'm pretty sure parking+petrol ain't going to be cheap either. Not sure how long a train from john o'groats to london takes:laughing:

Hi, yes, sorry.

I can understand why you wouldn't want to drive... doesn't sound good! I would guess that train would be expensive.

If I was you I would do one of the following:
- forget the stay in London (and buy a through ticket), or
- travel light (stay within the flybe restrictions), or
- get DHL to courier from London to John O'groats - if you look http://www.dhl.co.uk/publish/gb/en/eshipping/dhlitnow.high.html they SHOULD charge about £34 per bag (between 20kg and 31.5kg). You just need to either find somewhere to drop it off or get it picked up from your hotel in London or something.
