Here's one I've never heard before...

DH went to Minneapolis today. Flying from Forney Field at Fort Leonard Wood to St. Louis, then onto Mpls. All commercial.

Just got a text that he landed in MPLS and was gonna check on his bag. I said I'm sure it made it. His response was...

Yeah, they brought them to STL in a separate plane, I guess because of the weight. We'll see. :)

I know it's a VERY small plane Capeair is the airline from FLW and they'll move people around, but putting luggage on a separate plane is a new one on me!

Actually it's not unusual at all, especially if you're on a small aircraft. Sometimes they have to put luggage on a different plane due to weight issues; sometimes there is urgent cargo that takes the place of passenger baggage; sometimes the bags just don't make it onto the plane on time.

I've had my luggage arrive on an EARLIER plane several times. I got to the baggage carousel and there was my suitcase, already there, going around and around all by its lonesome. :)

Years ago, my mother, dd and I were flying home to TFGreen from SEATAC. We got as far as Newark where we encountered a 'mechanical' issue. We were delayed about 5 hrs!! My dh was tracking us and met us at TFGreen when we finally arrived. As Iheaded to baggage claim he told me not to bother, the bags were already in the car!!! Seems our bags had arrived about 3 hrs before us!!! That was a bit disconcerting to say the least.

Almost twenty years ago, I went on a cruise out of Miami. Air was included, so my return flight wasn't until 4 PM or so.

My luggage was locked up safely in Boston and had been for a number of hours. There was apparently plenty of free cargo space on earlier flights :teeth:

Oh yep, definitely happens. We can't *choose* for our bags to be on a different plane but *they* can.

One time I was on standby for an earlier flight on American out of DFW. It was a 70 seat plane and they bumped some people who had confirmed seats due to weight & balance, I think they would only board 68 and I was far down the standby list. But guess what - my luggage made the flight!

Actually that is common.

On my first trip flying anywhere ever, in 1987, my BFF and I went to San Diego to visit her sister. We flew on the same plane, but had 2 stops, never switched planes.
So they sent our luggage "supposidly" on a straight threw flight. When we landed they couldn't find our luggage. Everyday we called the airport to see if our luggage had been located. On day 5 my luggage had arrived at the airport (this was a 7 day trip). My friends luggage wasn't with it.
My luggage had been sent to Louisville KY, then onto Miami FL, then transfered to Las Vegas and onto San Diego.
My friend's luggage met us at the airport to fly out on day 7. It seems they had sent hers to New Mexico then to San Fransico.
CRAZY!!! Oh and there was no compensation for anything.
