This could be old news if someone posted it before. Haven't had internet for last 2 weeks since I was on the cruise. The wonder repo cruise that left Miami on May 1 there was a mishap with the luggage. A whole container of luggage went into the water. My luggage wasn't involved. The ship left around 7 we were thinking it was because of the Noro virus. But it was because of the luggage going into the water. Don't know for sure but I imagine they had to sent divers into the water to retrieve the luggage. Also it took longer to leave because one of the person whose luggage went into the water had his medicine in the luggage. Maybe someone will comment on here who had their luggage went into the water and how they were compensated for it. I'm assuming DCL washed all their clothes but the luggage will be ruined.

We had heard about that and it was posted when the Wonder sailed. What a way to start a vacation. o_O :laundy:

Yes, that was the story. Today we disembarked from the May 1-15 WBPC in San Diego. The start was awful. Because the previous cruise had the Noro two contracted cleaning teams desinfected the Ship, which delayed boarding till 2pm. Rooms were ready later (4.30pm), sail away was later and all was pretty messy. Then during dinner a DCL representitive came to one of our table companions to say that one of his suitcases was in the container that went overboard. They cleaned all his clothes and compensated for other items. Then the captain announced that one of the suitcases contained critical medicine that was not in stock in the ship's medical bay. This was ordered from a local pharmacy and picked up by a DCL agent. It was after dark that we finally left Miami and we kept on full speed ahead to make it to Cozumel in time. The first week there was no self service due to the Noro, so Crew Members were doing double time to serve on tje buffets, ice and drink stations. This was lifted on the Paname Canal day. Then we had a medical emergency the day before Puerto Valarte. The ship turned around to Acapulco to have the patient transported to the hospital. This lost so much time that many port adventures were cancelled. And the ship got some serious scratches from the PC crossing. It was not a cruise by the book, but we had a blast and would do it again tomorrow if we could.

Bummer that you had so many problems. Any idea how many bags were in the container that went overboard?

Since the Wonder is the largest cruise ship to transit the Canal, there's usually some scraping and scratching going on. On our WBPC a few years ago, some small concrete chunks of the Canal ended up in some port holes. The crew is quite adept at fixing problems at the first port after the crossing.

How much of the Panamax could you see, and do you think it will officially open without further delays?

We heard that story as we were boarding the Dream on the second. My family was a bit worried.

The cruise was great. Had good weather for the most part. Panama Canal day it rain but that is excepted there. Great entertainment. Except for no golden mickeys. I asked the cruise director Peter why no golden mickeys he said they are re doing it. John Charles was there which he is always great. Kyle knight and the beautiful misty, magic Dave, a lady who play 9 years in Broadway she was great. A juggler a comedian. 2 other groups were good. The only let down IMO was mark and rodi or something like that was terrible IMO and no golden mickeys. Thanks

Random PSA (although most on here probably know this) never have critical medication in checked luggage. You always want that in your control not some random person you never met. Especially because there may be a delay getting it back.

I agree. We never pack any of our meds or prescription glasses in the checked luggage!

Yeah I even give up my airline carry on to the cruise and just keep my backpack. But that has any electronics I brought, my medication, and anything else that I would be really upset about if I didn't get until the next morning. (Toothbrush etc for me... for others that may include a bathing suit if they want to swim the first day).

Taking the backpack on the ship until my room is ready isn't really a hardship since I carry it around alot anyway. I understand not wanting to have big bags though.

I don't have any hard sided luggage and won't be able to buy some before my cruise. I wonder if I should pack all my stuff in space bags. I won't be able to repack at the end without a vacuum. I was thinking of using trash bags, but they don't seal and I could see water getting in them pretty easily if my luggage was dropped in the water and not retrieved quickly. What does anyone else use?

The chances of something like this happening to you is extremely small. I honestly wouldn't go through the hassle of bagging everything.

Well, if it were my luggage that went over, it would not be a huge concern unless it were my pillow (yes I have to travel with my special pillow or my neck will be out of place). Pretty much everything we pack can get wet. Those items that can't are sealed in water tight containers. Learned that the hard way on a flight once. All medications will be in our carryon. At least the delay wasn't too bad and everything was squared away.

We were on this cruise and it was wonderful. It was mentioned that the luggage that fell in may have had meds the passenger needed so that may have help cause the delay. Passengers should never put their meds in checked bags. Never.
Can't say enough about how wonderful this cruise was!

That was my thought, too, but you could put them in the space bags without actually sucking the air out, ie: use it for the airtight seal, not the space saving. If nothing else, if you have a few special things that wouldn't do well in the water, like a plug or your favourite moisturizer or that cute pair of shoes or sequin dress (or ties, gentlemen) that would be ruined, throw them in a ziploc. If it can be laundered safely, don't worry about it.

They make compression space bags that don't need a vaccuum. You zip and then roll the air out of. I ordered a set off amazon and they were fairly cheap and work great.

I know it sounds crazy but they may let you use the vacuum on the ship. I was in a hotel recently and I don't like to let people in my hotel room. (For some reason the DCL staff don't bother me when they come in my room) I had unpacked a box and had some packing shreds on the carpet. I just asked the housekeeping lady in the hallway to let me use her vacuum. Of course the other space bags that you just roll are probably easier :)

I was one of the poor unfortunates that had their luggage dumped in the harbor. I have filed a claim with Disney, according to the documentation I received their liability is limited to $300. They in turn will pass the claim to the stevedores. I have also filed a claim with my homeowners insurance. The travel and baggage insurance policy I purchased for the trip only covers any shortages after the filing with Disney and my homeowners insurance, I am now question whether buying baggage insurance makes any sense. Disney tried, washing wool slacks and a sports jacket didn't work to well, garment made out of synthetic fibers showed no ill affects, but my suitcase, leather items and electronics were ruined. I was given a $200 credit and lent a pair of waiters pants to wear for formal night, the pants were kind of neat looking with the stripe on the side. Now I am just waiting for my claims to be processed.

I'll add an update with any relevant info when this matter if finally resolved.

So sorry. I thought DCL would of did more.
