Luggage at Disney

Hi guys,

I'm arriving at LAX this Saturday at 6am and we'll be staying at an Airbnb in Anaheim for the duration of our Disney stay. Unfortunately, the check in is incredibly late (4pm) and we are not sure what we'll do with our luggage during this time as we explore DTD. Does anyone know of somewhere that we would be able to stow our luggage for a few hours, even for a fee? The dimensions for the lockers just seem too small.

We've spoken to our Airbnb hosts and they've said they can't take our luggage early as they may be cleaning. Hindsight is 20/20.

How big are your suitcases? DL has lockers in the Esplanade area and they come in 3 different sizes.

You could rent a car for the day and keep the luggage in the car. Even if your bags would fit in the picnic area lockers, it's unclear if Disney will still escort guests there now that the security checkpoint is at the far end of DTD.

I don't think I have seen anything on the locker situation since the security changes. can you bring luggage into the security zone?

We weren't planning on renting a car in Anaheim but that might have to change now. Thanks!

Or maybe rent a hotel the night before. Get there at 6 am. Sleep for a bit and then check out and ask them to hold your luggage. Just make sure you tell them you will be arriving in the morning so they don't give your room away.

How are you getting to the Air BnB?

I think I'd compare the following;
The price of the cheapest hotel + transport to DTD & back then to your Air BnB
The cheapest rental car + parking at DTD then transport to your Air BnB

I'd also look at downsizing your largest suitcase or splitting into two smaller. I used to take a HUUGGEEE suitcase AND a small one but through necessity recently I found out that I could downsize to a smaller one + a zipped tote. BFF and I also found that if we moved around some of our stuff to each other's suitcases we could both use smaller ones.

I agree! With a couple of additions:
  • cheap rental car (which you'd rent the day before, so you don't have to waste time on check out morning picking up said rental car) + parking at Mickey & Friends parking structure or Toy Story lot ($18). DTD parking could end up costing you more than regular DL parking based on how long you're there --> https://disneyland.disney.go.com/faq/downtown-disney-district/parking-cost/. BTW, DTD has Alamo rental car. They're open 7 days a week 8am-6pm.
  • take taxi or Uber to airport early in the morning and check your luggage super early for your afternoon flight. Might be least ideal option in terms of logistics & timing.
  • cheap hotel + transport 1-way to hotel. Basically, once you leave the Airbnb place, you really wouldn't have a need to return. Motel 6 would probably be ~$100. 1 day small rental car is cheaper than that.
  • If you DO rent a car, get one that has a large enough trunk to store all of your luggage out of sight. A quick search on Alamo's website, picking up at the DTD location and returning to LAX the next day is $62 for an economy, $79 for a midsize car.

I would price it as:
transpo to Anaheim + 1 day rental in Anaheim
vs.
1 day rental at LAX + 1 way drop fee

The only thing is, I doubt you're going to be able to get a rental car in Anaheim before 8 or 9am. If you do get a rental car at LAX you may be better off stopping somewhere before DTD, because not much will be open when you get there anyway.

Thanks everyone for your input and research! I doubt with customs and traffic we'll be in Anaheim before 8, but I'll keep all of the above in mind.

ETA: The original plan was to get a shuttle to Disney and then an uber to our Airbnb since it's only a few minutes away.

Somewhere awhile ago I read here on the DIS that some hotel on Harbor Blvd(I think) had luggage lockers anyone could pay to rent? I have no idea what hotel it was but I suppose if you had time you could call around or start a new thread...?

I think it's the Desert Inn and Suites.

OP, you can rent a car at DTD Alamo for $27 a day. It might be worth it, especially if you want to make a trip to the grocery store before heading to the house.

I'd be cautious of the hotel route because not all hotels will hold your luggage after check-out so you could still end up with no place to store the luggage from noon-4pm. I'd go the Alamo route, grab the car at LAX, pay to park at Disneyland for the day, return it to DTD that evening. You eat the car (~$100 w/ taxes?) and 1 day of parking ($18) but save shuttle & some Uber money (shuttles were $20/pp for Super Shuttle last time I did that a couple years ago; idk in town Uber costs) if you have a couple people those cost savings would pay like half the cost of the car!

I might be able to help. I live across the street from DLR. Message me if you'd like :)

I second an above post that if you do rent a car to be sure that you can store everything locked in the trunk and out of sight.

This was one of the issues that resulted in us 'downsizing' our luggage. We drive and wanted to stop off for a day at Universal, so we had to downsize so everything would fit in BFF's trunk.

disny1mom- You may just have an idea for a new business! Have garage, will store!! Not really practical in one's home, naturally, but I wonder if someone could make money with a small retail space just charging to store luggage. But I expect it'd be a security and liability insurance nightmare.

I think you're very 'Disney' to offer to help OP as a one-off, though.

LOL Have garage, will store. :) I was just offering to help them out and did not think about the liability aspect! Yikes!!! I figured they could have their airport transportation drop them at my house across the street from DLR and they could leave their bags in my garage and then I could give them a ride across the street to DTD. It's only about a 8 min walk from my front door to DTD, so they could walk back to pick up their bags. If their rental is not close they could always uber. The OP has not messaged me so they probably have decided to rent a car or something else.
On another note I would LOVE to start some sort of DLR service business! Just not sure what it would be. Stroller rental is already done well by others, so not sure what would work. Am open to ideas. :)

Hmmm, how about a darkish room with adult sized 'nap mats' and soothing music, like at a preschool. Charge per hour for 'nap time' for those who need a break and whose homes or hotels are too far to be convenient for an afternoon rest. Extra for back rubs and juice. LOL:teeth:

Lucky you to live so close!
