Lucky Charms Tour 2005
Starring .
Angel (aka Mandy) . Mum extraordinaire, teenager at heart, loves to shop
Becky (17) daughter, rock star, budding artist, also loves shopping
Background: trip was booked last minute (just the week before we left) by my lovely DH as a special treat for us girls to help us relax after a tough year, while he works, poor thing. Were travelling with MyTravel to Pop Century for a week in the sun .
1. Leaving on a Jet Plane
So, yesterday we had a panic trip to London to get Beckys passport renewed, nothing like leaving it til the last minute eh? Today seems almost like an anti-climax after all that stress! Still, we have the passport now in our hot sweaty little mitts. In any case I have no time today to dream of holidays too much as Im still working, at least til 3. Mind you, stock taking, labelling shelves and tidying my school library (Im a school librarian) isnt exactly mind blowing and cant stop me dreaming for long!
The krispy kreme I have for lunch (brought back from London yesterday) is a nice reminder of things to come! At 3 pm I lock up and speed home to finish off the last bits of preparation .that mean repacking the bulging cases and nagging Becky to hurry. At least Becky is out of bed I suppose!....Mind you she does have to change outfits another twice before we go
Check cases one last time for weight .hmmmmm .not much room for shopping!
Just time to say goodbye to all my Dibb friends before Mark is home and we say our own goodbyes ..sob ..itll be the first week weve spent apart for a few years since we got together in fact and Ill miss him like crazy. I do appreciate spending the week with my Becky though, itll be good to have this time with her.
Our cab turns up and its obviously specially for us because its bright pink! Yay! They must know us! How kind .
One last hug for Mark and were off to the station, which is just 5 minutes away. Still seems very unreal as its been such a rush job, I like this way of doing it.
The short journey to Reading station is over and we lug the cases onto the platform, as I begin to see just HOW much Ill miss Mark this trip! These flippin cases are a nuisance! Bump into Marks friend at the station and he promises to look after Mark on their boys night out later that evening .hmmmmm
Uneventful journey to Gatwick except that Becky is worse than a toddler and is desperate for the loo and doesnt want to find it on her own honestly! Gatwick is just 80 minutes away and it starts to seem real as we arrive at the airport where its all hustle and bustle and very very busy. I do hope its not like this tomorrow when we fly!
Seems a long walk over to Le Meridien (well, monorail & walk) but I do prefer it to the Hilton and were soon booked in and dump our cases in the room, noting how clean and comfy it looks. At least they noted the twin bed request! Trek back to the North Terminal to collect our travellers cheques and cash from Travelex oh its all so easy this time rather than forgetting my credit card last year when Mark had to go all the way home for it!!!)
Were soon at Frankie & Bennys ready for our dinner, a tradition for us. Meatballs & spaghetti for me, with a nice glass of valpolicella to wash it down, while Becky has a fab bowl of home made tomato soup with some garlic pizza bread. She eats more than Ive seen her eat for ages good! She decides to have a waffle with toffee crunch for dessert even tho I warn her its not vegan, but its up to her.
My Mum phones during dinner and wishes us a happy holiday .I think shes very jealous! Browse round Smiths and buy 3 magazines and 3 books between us .the holiday shopping starts here! Becky doesnt usually read at all so Im glad to see her show some interest in books at last. Personally I dont intend to read much at all on holiday as I have to do that all year long!
Sadly (or luckily?) Top Shop and Monsoon are closed as its getting late which means we are able to save some money to actually spend on holiday, and save room in our cases too. Trek back to the hotel and catch the last few minutes of BB and watch Derek as he leaves .funny how trivial it all seems now were on our way to Florida! Were both exhausted, its been a long day, for me anyway, and weve a longer one ahead tomorrow.
The wake up call is booked for 4.30 am!!! (YUK) much to Beckys disgust, she normally doesnt surface til lunch time) so by 11 Im ready for sleep.
Poor Becky, Ill later find out, doesnt get more than an hour or sos sleep as I do my wart hog impressions all night long .I did warn her to buy ear plugs!
Night night .see you tomorrow!
Zzzzzzzzz .snore!
