Ok, I booked our family to the luau the last night of our trip... my dd7 is into the whole Hula thing due to her american girl doll molly.
However, I have read some not soo exciting things about it since.
Could you share your feelings on this even with me in detail. My other choice is to take the family to brown derby.. i think its called. I want a fun end to our trip!
Thanks!

We did this in Oct for our 15th ann. DH and I really enjoyed it. the food was good. The show was a little corny but fun. The dancers were very good. We thought it was a fun evening.

We have done both the with our kids. We did the luau in 2005 because my brother inlaw always wanted to go. I had read the mixed reviews and was worried, but it was a great time. Our expectations were low and we were pleasantly surprised.

We love the Brown Derby, too. The food was definitely better, but the meal was slow.

I think I would go with the luau. It is one of those things you need to do at least once.

Have a great trip!

I would pick the Hoop de Doo Review over the luau hands down. I think your daughter would enjoy it much more. Maybe you might want to try Lilo and stitch's character breakfast to give her a Hawaiian feel or dinner at Ohana's is awesome and the kids get leis, do coconut races and learn the hula.

:) the reason I didn't book the hoop de do is because my family is not much of a "ho down with country" kind of family... its actually pretty annoying to us. That is what I got out of that event from reading.. however please let me know if I am mistaken because I don't want to miss anything great.

My interpritation is that maybe people don't like the luau because it is not as exciting as many of the other attractions? Or is there something else...?

I appreciate all the answers and imput! :)

HDDR is more of a vaudville type review show with corny jokes, but everyone I know has loved it. The food is fried chicken, ribs, strawberry shortcake for dessert and it is all you can eat and drink (Beer, sangria, etc). The luau food was just mediocre and my kids kept asking me when it would be over they were bored. The fire dancer was great, but he is only on for a few minutes and you can also see a great fire dancer at the AK lion king show. We did the luau twice, several years apart, basically because I wanted to give it a second chance but we won't be back. The HDDR, on the other hand, is a must do every trip. I wanted to skip it last time but the kids insisted. My girls are 9,13, and 18 and we have gone every year since the youngest was an infant.

I have never been to either the HTTR or the Luau. June 2009 will only be our 2nd trip to Disney and we are planning to go to the Luau. I have heard mixed reviews also. I think it is just one of those things that you have to try for yourself. I also was told not to do too many character meals because they tend to be the same everywhere, however, we had ADR's for 4 character breakfasts and we loved it. Our group was 5 adults and 3 children, and I think the adults enjoyed it just as much as the kids. I think everyone is different and likes different things.:yay:

We did the Luau and Im glad we did it, but it isn't a must do every trip. The food was decent. The fire thrower was definitely good, but it is towards the very end. We had young kids with us and they stayed interested the whole time, it probably helped that we had excellent seats in the very front. I can't compare it to the HDDR, because we have not done that one yet.

We did this in June 2006. We are going again in Sep!! We love it! Can't even remember the food but we loved the show!
