Luau or Hoop Dee Doo for a 2 Yr Old?

We're going at the end of April with our 2 year old daughter and I originally planned for us to go to the Spirit of Aloha show, but then started seeing some negative reviews and then seeing great things about Hoop Dee Doo.

Would love to hear what everyone has to say about either one of them.

For a 2 year old, I would say neither. Hoop Dee Doo, some people love, we hated..but regardless, is over the head of a 2 year old IMHO. I'm just saying that if you're just looking for something for the 2 year old. If you guys want to go, I'm sure a 2 year old may get a kick out of it, but I don't think it's geared towards that young.

Definitely not the Spirit of Aloha.

I have to say neither as well. We took our 2.4 year old twins in October and thought about doing Hoop, but decided to focus on character meals instead. Their favority BY FAR was Chef Mickey's. We ended up doing it twice!

my son had a blast at HDDR. He was 2yrs old and loved it much more then any character meal. He loved the food, the music and the characters gushing over him and his mohawk. Hes a huge eater tho and loves everything. I guess it just depends on the kid. My ds only knows a few charcters, CARS and mickey at the time..he doesnt watch any TV so he was a bit lost with the characters.

we took ds's when they were almost 2 almost 5 and again on our last trip. HDDR is one of our favorites. My youngest was almost 2 the first time and loved the music and singing along. I watched both their faces this time and they were smiling and laughing the whole time. I guess it depends how much you get into it yourself and help make it fun for your kids. I love to sing and dance along in my chair and the kids can sense that.
We have not done the luau with them yet. I did it a few years back and don't think it would be as entertaining for them.

Neither is great for a 2yo. Just do Chef Mickey's or some character meal instead. They are too young to "get it".

The HDDR is fun for kids. He may not get the jokes, but there is a lot of singing, dancing, clapping and the kids play washboards at the end. My kids love it! The SOA, I'm sorry to say, is kind of...boring.

I agree with the PP's - I'd do neither. My kids were tired at the end of the day, and usually in bed by 8 or so. Even with a nap, it would be way too much to me.

My kids have still never been to either. There is so much to do at Disney, but a dinner show, while fun, would be too much for most 2 year olds.

We hated the Review and loved the Luau!!! Kids all felt the same way as adults.

We hated the Poly Luau-my son slept through it so not sure what he would have thought but the adults loved the Hoop Dee Doo while my son did enjoy it he would have prefered a character meal. My son was 3 when we went to both.

Since you will not have to pay for a ticket for the 2 y.o. I would say HDDR! I have been twice with little ones (3 and under) and the kids loved it. While they do not get the jokes, the food and entertainment is wonderful. I would say this over the Luau. You could still do character meals but again, this is a nice break for you as the parents as well. I thought the food was great! My DH and my sister's DH on 2 separate occasions were chosen to join the cast on stage. It was a hoot! I would definitely go back!

If you are going to do it, I would plan on the 1st show and try to do it on a day that is a rest day or a morning that you will be in and out of a park by lunch. You will have to be there about 45 minutes before and depending on what type of transportation you are using, it may take some time to get there, park everything. If you drive, you will still have to hop a bus back to Pioneer Hall.
