Luau in December?

We are starting to plan our trip for next December. We are sitting on the fence about going to the Spirit of the Aloha dinner/show. We're a little concerned about the weather in December (we're going the first week). Does anyone have any experience with going that time of year? Was it ok or did you freeze?!

We have done this a few times in January, when it is usually colder than December.
Due to the weather, I always book the early show. Also it is not uncommon for the luau to be cancelled due to cold weather in January.
So may be a good idea to book this early in your trip in case you need to change it to a different night, if it is cancelled and you have that option.

This is what I'm worried about. Either the show will get cancelled or we will need to be all bundled up and trying to eat dinner and enjoy the show. My BIL & SIL were at WDW the first week of December this year and they said one day in particular it was absolutely freezing.

The night we did the luau in February it was pouring down rain the entire time and cold but they didn't cancel it. We called several times that day to make sure since it had rained the entire day.

We were down earlier this month and it was very cold. On a few nights they cancelled the later show. The first show still went on. Not sure about every night but the night our friends had plannedf to do this and the night before (2nd week of February).

Doesn't sound very pleasant.
I think we're going to have to really think about whether we want to do this or not. If it was earlier in the year it would be different.

We have it planned for the 5:15pm show this Saturday but have Yachtsman Steakhouse as a backup. I'm thinking I'm going to call and cancel the luau. The high Sat. is only going to be in the upper 50s. I'd rather sit in comfort and enjoy a great meal than be bundled up and trying to enjoy the outdoor meal. We'll try the luau in April.

December is very unpredictable - it can be in hte 80's or in the 50's and lower!

Personally, I would not plan it for winter months

On the other hand, you can always call up that week when you have the weather and see if you can get in...just a thought

If you are worried about the weather in December for the Luau, have you considered doing the Hoop Dee Doo instead? It is indoors, the food is great, the entertainment is fun, and IMHO, it is a far better all around experience than the Luau anyway.

Maybe I’ve been lucky, but I’ve done the luau in November, December and February and never had any problems. The coldest one we had was in February, but we were comfortable wearing sweatshirts. Oh, and we always choose the later seating, FWIW.

We're staying at the Poly, didn't do the luau last time and would have liked to have tried it this time (you know, the whole Poly experience thing ...) But, as I said, I'm worried about the weather.
I have thought about HDDR, but DH isn't sold. We have two kids (4 & 7), so I think they would enjoy it. The trouble is convincing my DH, sister & BIL, who will also be with us.

We went to WDW the first week of Dec in 2007 and 2009. Both the weather was pretty warm. 2009 we did have to wear coats on the last day but usually shorts even in the evening. As others have said it can be 80 or 50, you just never know.

We are going to the Luau next month and I have a back up ADR in case it is too cold or raining. I think that is all you can do.

We were scheduled for Thurs. 2/18 8PM show and got a call the night before that the luau was cancelled. We were not happy as it was too late to get into the 5:15pm show and almost impossible to book elsewhere...tried calling 3x and wasted time doing so.... and we were leaving the next day so had to "scramble" to use the 10 credits.
Apparently, anytime the temperature is less than 50degrees they cancel the show - that is what I was told.

We went in January 2008 and loved it. Not too hot, not too cold. We did the late show as well.

we went to the early show on 2/16 and we froze! we were wearing underarmour and lands end squall jackets while we ate. they needed some heat lamps in there or that propane heater like they had in front of chefs de paris for those waiting. it also seemed like things were rushed. we were never even offered coffee after dinner, and a hot cup of coffee would have been welcomed. i did see other tables offered coffee tho. dh even said the show seemed rushed due to the cold. we had done the luau before so we did have that experience for comparison. we really could not wait to get out of there due to the cold. that being said, the samoan fire dance act is still incredible!

Don't think you need to worry about freezing in early December. Weather is generally pretty mild but it can cool off at night to maybe the 50's. Our coldest weather comes in January and February. Enjoy your trip.

One of our times in January a storm hit just at the end of the show. The fire eater was in the pouring rain.
Because we had been there before we knew they cut the show short and rushed guests out.
What I thought was odd was they were rushing guests out into the pouring rain. We tried holding back until the downpour stopped. (Usually a sudden downpour in FL lasts around 20 minutes.) We were shooed out anyway into the rain. Of course by the time we reached the main bldg the rain was barely a drizzle.
