Can anyone tell me if this is worth it? What was your experience? With our daughter being older I thought she would enjoy dinner shows more than character dining - need suggestions/recommendations.
Thanks!

If you have never gone, then it is worth going to at least once. We did this back in May and both of my girls (9 and 7 at the time) enjoyed themselves. As for DH and I, we thought the plot of the show was corny. We all really enjoyed the fire eater at the end of the show :thumbsup2

We enjoyed it, the food was nice (not great), the kids had a ball and the entertainment was good. But it's not something that we would rush back and do again. We also have done quite a few Luau's in Hawaii and one at the Royal Hawaiian we have done over and over and just love it, so maybe I am comparing it to that too much.

If we went with friends again who had not been and wanted to go, then I would go again, but would not rush to do it a second time if it was just us.

That being said, I am glad we went and we did have a fun night :thumbsup2

We did it last year.. we had another signature booked and at the last minute decided to cancel.. we were staying at the poly and replaced the canceled ressie with the luau.. we ended up with front row.. and my husband got called up.. I have never laughed so hard in my life.. and our son enjoyed it.. yes it was corny and the food not great, but the experience of being at the poly was worth it to us..

It wasn't our cup of tea. I am glad we went once, and don't feel the need to go ever again. It is really really corny. The food was ok, nothing special.
I don't fault anyone for liking it. That's what I love about Disney.. there's something for everyone!:)

What time of year are you going? Wouldn't do this during the winter months- it is in an open air setting and the nights can be very chilly.

This. Plus they cancel the show when the temps drop below 50 degrees. It got that cold for us in March once, and the canceled the show. We got a refund, but it was still a bummer.

My sister & her family went to the luau last week. They said it was one of the best things they did all week. They have 6 & 8 yr. old DD's & they enjoyed it too.

Did it for first time last August. We enjoyed the show and the food, but I am not sure we would go again (certainly not anytime soon). We seem to like HDDR the best of the dinner shows.

We have been to the luau twice. The first time we were there we just loved it. Since they don't change the story at all, I think once is enough. We had a great time though. I would consider going back if they changed things up. I do have to say that we went to a luau over at Sea World a few years back, and this was definitely a better show. I'm not sure if they even still offer it. I do think you should try it out.

Our family of four went to the luau last February. I would only recommend it if you can get decent seats close to the stage. We were seated way in the back and couldn't see the stage very well. Our kids really couldn't see much of the show either. I actually liked the story of the show (even though it is corny) and was disappointed we couldn't see more. I thought the food was not bad.

We've gone twice and I would definitely recommend paying for Level 1 seating. We thought it was worth it. We enjoyed the food and the service was great. We thought the show was enjoyable for the whole family. Our DD was 5 the first time and fell asleep before the fire juggler so we went again last year when she was 6 and she loved it:cool1: We're skipping it on our Jan trip, because we'd like to try something else this time.

i took my 7y/o granddaughter this past summer and she really liked it. she dressed up in a grass skirt etc... and enjoyed the change from the regular character dinner. it's a corny show but for her age group was fine (for her it was the summer between 1st and 2nd grade if that helps). she liked going up on stage for her birthday (they called people up from the audience). food was only so-so but not inedible, just pricy for quality. all in all we were glad we did it once. if nothing else watching a man with fabulous 6 pack abs dance around was fun :rolleyes1...i'm a grandmother but i'm not blind lol.

I went to the Luau last May with my two daughters (25 and 21) and my mother (72). We had the Level 2 seating and had a very decent view of the show. Like several others have said, the first half of the show was kind of boring for the four of us. While there, the MK fireworks started and we had a great view of those and were much more fascinated with that than the show we paid for. However, the second half of the show was really, really good. The cast members performed several different hula dances from Hawaii and the South Pacific. The music was great two. The firedancer was excellent.

We absolutely loved the food. I know some don't care much for it, but it was very delicious and lots of it. The dessert was not so great. The Luau won't be a "must-do" for every trip, but I will definitely go again, specifically for the food and the second half of the show.

We went to see it in May (7 adults, only my dad had seen it before) and we enjoyed the show. Like PP, the 2nd half of the show is much better. The first half is shown off and on during dinner and the 2nd half is shown after most of the food is cleared away. If we went again and had the dining plan, however, I would pay out of pocket because it wasn't the best value, numbers wise, to use 2 credits IMO.

We were lucky with our seating placement and were just off the center against the rail on the 2nd level which were great seats.

I believe the Luau is definitely worth seeing at least once, regardless of the age of the attendees. They do a good job of gearing towards the whole audience without people feeling it is too adult or too childish. Great food selection, great entertainment, a good value for what it costs. I'd give it a shot.
