Sorry if this is a repeat but I just read this on ALLEARS...
"IMPORTANT: Beginning January 5, 2009, the Magic Kingdom's Liberty Tree Tavern will no longer offer character dining. The last character dinner at the Tavern will be on January 4, 2009. "

There go my Thanksgiving plans for 2009!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, they announced this a few months ago. Which made LTT a must do for our trip next month, even though the only time we could get in was at 8pm. Crazy, isn't it? The place is always packed. I don't get it.

Yes, it is true that LTT is losing the characters. I find it funny that the one thing guests ask for more of is character dining and instead of adding character dining at a location, they decide to take one away. I think there is only way one to remedy this....COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN!!! Disney does listen. Look at how many times they have changed the Dining Plan, it is to try to accomodate all the requests/complaints/suggestions guests make.

I've seen quite a few people here and elsewhere saying that Disney has too much character dining. Different people, different opinions. I think that MK doesn't have enough non-character table service options available, but the number of character meals resort-wide seems just about right.

That will be a sad ending for us. We always loved doing that. And your right....there isn't enough character dining in MK.

We were discussing this with our hostess last Friday who came back to our table to check on us and chat a bit. She said they're all very upset about it and repeated over and over to email Disney. She said she they've done it before and brought the characters back due to guest comments so urged us to write, write, write to the guest communication email address.

:thumbsup2 I have always wanted to try this restaurant, but since we don't do the Character meals anymore (DD is 12) I am pleased that we will have a chance to try this and not have to trek to EPCOT for a TS when in the MK.

We adore Liberty Tree Tavern for lunch because of the menu. I also LOVE their chracter line up in the evenings. Minnie is perfection in her colonial gear and Chip and Dale are side splitting.

I much prefer a character dinner to a breakfast. The breakfast hours are when the parks are empty and the lines are short. I like having a character dinner when the parks are full, the fastpasses are all distributed, and the lines are long. I enjoy sitting down, being served, eating a good meal, and interacting with characters.

I have found that LTT offers balanced character interaction. I have noticed some of the breakfasts have characters spending all their time with small children and really skimming over tables with older kids, teens or adults. My teens, hubby, fosters, and I all paid full price, and I appreciate getting character time, since I paid for that service. I don't know why they do a better job at character time fairness, but we have noticed it on many visits.

We always eat at least one lunch there, usually two. We always eat a dinner when the weather is cool, but we just don't get as excited about "Thanksgiving Dinner" when it is 95 degrees outside. I wish they had a few lighter options for dinner, but we still usually book a dinner and they are always PACKED to the rafters, even in the middle of summer.

Do we know what other changes may be implemented? Menu changes?

My kids are getting older too and prefer not to dine with the characters anymore, so for us it's not a big deal, but I can see how disappointing it will be for some people. I always felt they should separate the restaurants for people who want to eat with the characters and people who don't. Most of the restaurants are big enough to do that.

They should keep the characters at LTT and get rid of them again at Akershus. That place foodwise was more geared to adults and adventurous eaters with their old food choices. Now its watered down --we havent been back because we dont want that type of character dining. Plus LTT at MK- a better character meal fit.

I will definitely miss LTT. While there may be ample character dining in WDW not many of them are true sit down meals. I don't want to be forced to do a buffet. That is what makes GG and LTT automatic ADRs every trip.
