Low White Count in my blood??

Hi, everyone. I've been sick all winter...colds, flu, etc.

My doctor just told me that my white count was low - 3.6 when normal is 4.5.

Anyone else have this problem? Is it really serious??

It usually means your body is trying to fight off something, often an infection or some bacteria. The last time I had routine blood work done my count was low and my doctor and I attributed it to my having the flu the week before the blood work. I'm sorry you were sick all winter, it was a bad one for that. What did your doctor think of the results? Are you feeling any better? Not to sound like a mom or anything but make sure you're getting enough sleep, eating a balance diet and taking a multivitamin. Feel better.

I'm sorry you have been so ill. I wish I knew more about white counts. I thought that when they were high it meant you were fighting an infection. I'm not a nurse or doctor, though.

The doctor said that I should be retested and, if it's still low, I should see a hematologist. It's probably not a sign of something serious and could just be hereditary.

I'm almost relieved to know that there is something wrong causing me to be sick all the time. Now I just have to figure out what to do about it!

I've heard if you eat tomatoes or things with a tomato base (pizza sauce, spaghetti sauce, etc.), it'll help boost up white cell counts. I hope it's not anything serious.
