I have no intention of dieting during the whole trip but I have been trying to eat low fat and wouldn't mind continuing this some of the time. Anyone know of some good low fat choices all over the world that would make me feel justified in eating at the Main Street Bakery, Boulangerie Patisserie, Sci-Fi, etc....? I have looked over some menus but it's hard to know what is really low fat. Plus maybe I have overlooked things, so any tips would be great!!

I know this isn't the answer you are looking for but...you are on vacation. Eat your heart out!!! Drink lots of water, bring low-fat snacks (my fav are those 100 calorie packs of cookies/chips/etc) so you aren't tempted by ice cream/popcorn in the parks, and MOST importantly don't forget how much you WALK during a Disney vaca. The walking alone offsets any splurges you make at the restaurants!

I say good for you for not throwing your health out the window while on vacation!

Take a looksie on the WISH board for ideas. Most of the people on WW will be following some sort of low-fat plan.

That said, you can make sure to ask for your dishes to be made without butter or oil. Some restaurants should have a low-fat salad dressing option but I'm not sure. There may be low-fat milk/yogurt options. Can't really say that anything at Main Street bakery will be low-fat but maybe you could find a bran muffin (now doesn't that sound like fun).

Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Ugh, diets on vacation...no fun!

I completely understand where you're coming from, tho. DH and I have lost over 70 pounds combined since last August on the Mediterranean Diet/American Heart Association Diet, and we didn't want to flush our hard work down the toilet...not to mention, we were a little concerned with how our tummies would react to high-fat/processed foods.

Definitely remember all the walking you're doing. This will allow for extra calories! DH and I also craved heavy protein from the extra physical exertion. Red meat is a once-a-month treat on our diets, but we ate it almost every day at WDW.

I can tell you the TS restaurants were very open and accomodating about how they prepare their meals. At PTC, I ordered the pasta primavera with grilled seafood, and I was told they only use 100 percent olive or canola oil in all their dishes. I was also pleasantly surprised to see partially-hydrogenated oils gone from all their snack foods you can buy in small bags at the shops (I follow the "good fat" diet, i.e., olive oil, nuts, avocado are okay in moderation).

Tusker House in AK has some very nice choices, grilled salmon and roasted half-chickens. I'm seeing more "health conscious" options every time I go to any of the parks/resorts.

Don't forget, too, you're on vacation. Eat a balanced, big, healthy breakfast if you can each day before hitting the parks and don't forget a one-a-day vitamin. My trainer told me, "It's not what we do 10 percent of the time that counts; it's what we do 90 percent of the time that counts." Make sure to treat yourself a little for all your hard work and tremendous walking!

We have watched our eating during our annual trips to WDW, since losing a combined 160 pounds in 2001-2. It is well worth the minor inconvenience to assure we're respecting our bodies as much as we're enjoying ourselves. We've found that the full-service restaurant chefs are especially accommodating. As long as we've stayed away from the fast food places, we've come home down a few pounds.

One of my favorite low fat counter service meals is the grilled chicken salad at Flame Tree BBQ. Its a nice big salad w/grilled chicken strips on top and a viniagrette dressing. Its SO good!

I am very health consious 365 days of the year, I only eat 20 grams of fat a day, so i know where you are coming from. However, I do allow myself a few indulgences when I am on vacation. I eat a healthy, low fat breakfast in my room, usually oatmeal with fruit. Then for lunch we do counter service and I have a grilled chicken sandwich or a salad with low-fat/fat-free dresing. For a snack, I grab a piece of fruit or a Fruit juice bar. There are fruit carts everywhere and easy to grab something. Also, try the kaki gori in Japan in Epcot, it has lots of sugar...but no fat! Its really yummy too. If you are in DD, the pretzels at Wetzels can be low-fat, just ask for one without butter. At the TS resturants, I always ask what they have that is low fat. Usually they can make something special for you without the added oils, etc. You just have to ask. I allow myself to have one indulgence per day (since I am doing so much walking!) and it is usually desert after dinner.

I know alot of people go crazy on vacation with food, but I feel better when I eat healthy. My body would react badly if I suddendly ate fried foods or high caloric, high fats for 7 days straight!\

Just pay attention and look around. Ask if you have to. BTW, candy is low fat ;) (I never said I don't eat sugar!)

I agree that you shouldn't throw away all your hard work just because you are on vacation. Who wants to come back to the real world just to find out you now fit back in your "fat" clothes. Splurge a little - for all the walking - but don't go overboard.

I think the best strategy for Disney will be just to put everything you know to good use. Look for items that are grilled, broiled, steamed, and fresh - and try to avoid foods that are fried, heavy sauces (garlic butter, cream, alfredo, pesto) - and do stick to tomato sauces (marinara), ask for fat free or low fat items when it comes to dressings and all those other tips and tricks of healthy food we know.

Most of all - remember your portions - we know what a portion is supposed to look like - Take the rest to your room - or share with people at your table.

I do like the idea of the 100 cal packs and such for mid day snacks - much cheaper that way too!! I also love protein bars to get me through a hunger spell - especially with all the walkin at Disney! I do those for breakfast everyday.

It Can Be Done!! (I'm just reminding myself....) :daisy:
