Any suggestions? Favorite resurants at WDW that you have eaten low carb in, favorite snacks in the parks, hotels. Any help is very appreciated. Hubby and I are losing weight to be healthier for ourselves and our infant daughter. Thanks,

It's pretty easy to eat low-carb at WDW!! The buffets are great, because you can always get good meat, salads, and vegetables. Just stay away from the pastas, potatoes and breads.

If you eat at any of the sit down restaurants, just tell your server that you're eating low-carb, and they will usually go out of their way to help out! They will substitute veggies for potatoes or pastas, etc. And, most restaurants offer sugar-free desserts now too - but be careful, because some of them still have high carb counts in the crusts, etc.

We had great success following South Beach at WDW. The sit-down resturants were very helpful, with the exception of Canada. I think our server didn't understand our requests, although they were not difficult. I left that dinner hungry & annoyed. California Grille & Artist Point were the most accomodating. And for a quick lunch, there are Chicken ceasar (SP?)salads throughout the World.

As other posters have said:

Chicken Ceaser salads - Most counter service places have a variation of this you can get. We had this a couple times.

Buffets - Most buffets had a wide selection for us to choose from, and stay pretty good on Atkins. Can't be Prime Rib for lunch and dinner. :)

Burgers - Well, ok if you can't find anything else, you can order a burger with the BUN on the side. Ask the cashier, they can type it in that way. This way all the cheese doesn't stick to the bread.

Fries - Most counter service places have a 'burger and fries' or 'sandwich and fries'. Ask for a subsitution (got a small side salad once) or ask for no fries. We didn't know till towards the end of the trip they could do JUST the burger and it was cheaper. They don't really 'advertise' this. Great money maker for them. :smooth:

If you need a chocolate treat...the sugar free moose at the bakery in Norway in Epcot is really good. There is also sugar free cheescake in the future world section of Epcot and somewhere else, I'll PM PixieMagic and ask her to post here 'cause I know she had some from somewhere else.

At LeCellier in Canada I was able to get a veggie substitution for fries but our waiter had to 'ask' the chef (at first he said he could only substitute starch for starch, but I knew that wasn't true). When you make you PS's be sure and mention you have dietary restrictions, then when you get there.

As mentioned, buffets are great as long as you can walk past the bread/pasta and dessert. On my trip the first week of Nov. I indulged in two sandwiches, a taste of smashed potatoes, one or two dinner rolls and several sweets (it was my birthday, after all) and french fries once...all this over a 7 day trip. I had a three pound gain and it all came back off the week I got back. All that extra walking does make a difference!

Have a great trip.

As far as snacks go....two words:

TURKEY LEGS!

'Nuff said. :)

Have a great time!

The sugar free cheescake is also available at the Boardwalk bakery.

Being a gastric bypass patient I had to follow a strict low-carb diet while I was in Disney.

My favorite meals:Lamb Meshoui in Restaurant Marrakesh - lamb in a mild tomato sauce - awesome
Duck at Chefs de France
Tilapia in San Angel Inn.

In the parks I often ordered a grilled chicken sandwich and ate the chicken without the bread. The turkey legs are a good choice but I didn't get them because I can't eat much. My DH did, and loved it. I tried to stay away from desserts and such. I did have the SF mousse in Norway but I probably wouldn't try it again - it was yummy but I had a reaction to it.

Best of luck with the low-carb,
Adele

Sugar free Cheesecake at the Boardwalk Bakery? I had no idea....Yummy! Thanks for the heads up on that one!;):p

I didn't know they had sugar free cheesecake at the Boardwalk Bakery. Bean, you and I will have to try it out, huh?

I had a wonderful steak at Mama Melrose in MGM, the waiter was very helpful. There was a great portobello mushroom appetizer too.

I would think that the Cobb Salad at the Brown Derby would be very Atkins friendly :)

At the electric umbrella in EPCOT you can get a hamburger with no bun, all you have to do is ask. They were very nice about it.

At Yakitori House you can get the shishkabob without rice. The server looked puzzled but was nice about it.

I started Atkins in January and have been to WDW twice since then and was able to stay 100% on plan.
