I LOVE THE POLY! From the Tingle I get in my stomach when I see the Polynesian Resort sign on the road, down to the smell of the GCH. Its all good! There are many other very nice resorts on property; I will admit that, no problem. Im not one to think the Poly is the only best resort at WDW, but there is something magical, down right special in MY BOOK about the Poly. Yes, just call me crazy!! You will not offend me....
We checked in around the 7 am, having spent the night before at a roach motel. I will not mention Seralagos name, but lets just say that it will be the last time I stay off site! I will take from the childrens trust fund if I need to. Forget saving that $200, it is just not worth it.
I was ready to cry, beg, plead, and throw myself on the floor if I could not get my desired room in Fiji. I was even prepared to wash dishes at the Kona café, what ever it would take to get that first floor room, cove side, but there was no need to do any of the above mentioned, Thank the Tiki Gods! The very nice older gentlemen who checked me in, told me I would be in Fiji, First floor cove side, and to call back later for the room number. By this time I have a real good buzz going on from just being in the GCH and this just put me over the top. So we dropped our stuff off with Bell services. Our favorite bell services guy Deon was not there, but a very nice lady took our bags and stored them, and we were off the AK for the first part of the Day.
Since this is just a resort report, I will keep it to the resort only.
Our room was #1307. This is the third time staying in Fiji, first floor cove side and at the moment it is our favorite!!! The view is awesome.
The only other longhouse I would rather be in would be Tonga (yea ! who wouldnt?) or Hawaii lagoon side, but I would have to take from the girls college fund in order to accomplish this, so Fiji will just have to do. Our room was of course refurbed, beautiful, and clean. I requested turn down for our stay. I have never done this before, and the girls got a kick out of it, .who am I kidding, me too! It was nice because mousekeeping made the day bed and that was a big help. OK, OK, I just wanted to feel spoiled!!!!! And it did just that. I did tip well for this, because I knew she would be making a special trip to do this and I really appreciated it, not being in Concierge, even if it is available to all guest upon request.
The tiki torches on our side were not working at night. Very sad because I would usually open the curtains and watch the torches burn at night. What better way to fall asleep! It was very sporadic with which ones were working. All over the resort, some would be working, and right next to a torch that was working, one would be broke. No biggie, just something I love about the Poly at night are the Torches lit.
The Kona Café right now is my favorite place to eat. I thought the food was great. I will be posting a picture review soon on the restaurant boards. This is such a great place to eat, even if you are not staying at the Poly, please try it, you will not be disappointed.
We got to be well acquainted with Tim the bartender at the Barefoot bar. We wanted something different from the normal menu drinks, and he whipped us up some pretty strong stuff. Great guy and very good bartender. Try his Grateful Dead if you are looking for something to kick ya back! This will do it. Also, and this is a tip for $$ saving people. If you want your pool drink in a regular plastic cup, you have to ask because they are charging an extra $3 for the special plastic cup you see here in the pic and the bartenders are told not to ask you but rather just make your drink in the cup. Just a little FYI here.
My two girls love the beach at the Poly! And can build castles all day there if I would let them. I think the view from the Poly is so much better than at the GF, this is JMHO. There is nothing like being on the beach watching Wishes while the girls play in the sand. One of the many thoughts that keep rolling through my mind while lounging in the chair, Thank the Tiki Gods Im not fighting all those people trying to get out of the Magic Kingdom right now!
As you may know from Tikimans post, Capt. Cooks was not moved when we got there. I was glad I have to say. Being on that side of the resort, it was nice not having to walk over the TT to get something quick to go. One of the sliders was open a little so I stuck my camera in and snapped a pic of what the inside looked like in the old boutique area next to Capt. Cooks. Just thought you might like to see.
In conclusion, I want to go back to the Poly NOW! I miss it. Planning a trip with just me and my hubby for October (without the kids) for the food and wine festival for a quick weekend trip. Cant wait to go back. ! Then hopefully another quick weekend trip in December with the girls to see the lights. Going at the end of May was great! The crowd level everywhere was less than in July. Very noticeable everywhere. No more trips in July for us! NO WAY!
Im just now coming out of my depression from being back. Powerful drug that Disney is. Its almost like you need to go through Detox in order to get back to real life.
