Loved Beach Club except for one thing

I think the lack of decent, in-door QS capacity affects the three hotels in that area -- BC, YC and BW. The quick options are either tacked onto gift shops or outdoor only. The BC pool QS closes in inclement weather and the Boardwalk Bakery or Pizza window are useless in torrential rain. When there is a daylong downpour, you cannot get into the Table Service restaurants and you do not want to "burn" a day's theme park entry in order to have a meal. Surely, they have the space somewhere around the lake to put a decent in-door QS in to service the three hotels?

We regularly stay at BC and don't feel there to be a lack of QS or casual dining options. Between BC Marketplace, Hurricane Hanna's, Marthas Vineyard plus the boardwalk options (pizza window, quick service carts, abracadabraBAR lounge, bar at ESPN, leaping libations, Bellvue lounge, etc....) plus the YC options (crew cup lounge, ale and compass, etc...) there are many places to grab something within walking distance without an ADR. The Dolphin and Swan also have offerings within walking distance. They even have in-room pizza and room service options. For those with hoppers EPCOT and Hollywood Studios are within walking/boat distance. Add in the places where you can get an ADR (and just have an appetizer or something light) and there are literally dozens of options. Downtown Disney is only a bus ride away --- with tons of options. Many of the rooms are DVC (1 bedroom and above) which also have kitchen facilities so really for the people staying there it's not too difficult to find some sort of option.

Just my opinion but with all the available options within walking/bus distance the area is not lacking options.

My husband says the crews cup lounge is a best kept secret at WDW. We love YC and BC. We eat at CC multiple nights each trip. So wonderful to not need an ADR but still get a good meal. Try it next time!

They just opened up a quick service location in the Yacht Club, which is a short walk away since the two hotels are connected. Josh from Easy WDW reviewed the new offerings on his blog. Here is the link to that review:

Quick service meals at Disney Resorts are pretty much limited in what they offer no matter where the resort is. We get used to the food court option like the ones we find at Pop Century and then we feel limited by a Quick Service offering at a deluxe.

It's too bad that the Captain's Grill restaurant is closed for renovations because that was a real hidden gem of a restaurant. The structure of a Disney deluxe resort is one in which restaurants are offered as dining choices. The food court is skipped and then you have quick serve options.

So there are dining choices at the Yacht and Beach Clubs (remember the 2 resorts are connected) :

Beach Club Marketplace,
Beaches and Cream Soda Shop, = Also has a take out window for Ice Cream!
Cape May Cafe,
Hurricane Hanna's Waterside Bar and Grill,
Martha's Vineyard,
Ale and Compass Lounge,
Captain's Grille (closed for renovations),
Crew's Cup Lounge,
The Market at Ale and Compass,
Yacht and Beach Club In-Room Dining,
Yachtsman Steakhouse,
Personally speaking I have enjoyed dining at everyone of these except for the newly opened The Market at Ale and Compass.

Hopefully the next time you stay at this resort you will also get to enjoy the offerings at these dining places at the resort.

To clarify and avoid confusion:
Captain's Grille is not closed, it is temporarily relocated to the former Ariel's in the Beach Club while it is being refurbished.

For now, the majority of the CG menu, with a few new additions is being served at Ariel's. Apparently, this was supposed to be a refurbishment, but seems more like a total renovation, complete with name change, so NinjaMom is most likely correct in mourning CG, because as it was is likely gone.

I own DVC at BWV and that is my one complaint, no quick service similar to Captain Cooks, Roaring Fork or even Gasparilla Grill.

We have stayed at both the Dolphin and the Swan, and Picabu is a wonderful thing to have easy access to on vacation.

We've stayed at all levels of Disney resorts, and most of the food courts close at midnight. That does not work for my night owl family especially when park hours run 11:00 PM or later.

I find it a great inconvenience to not have somewhere to grab a quick bite in any kind of weather. Picabu has grab & go at a minimum 24/7. My family really needs round the clock hours like that.

Yep, after getting a peep at the concept photos, the "seafood shanty lite" like atmosphere of the Captain's Grill is gone for good. They just shifted to serving food over at Ariel's. I really liked the Captain's Grill because it had reliably executed food, fantastic servers, and a calming, easy vibe that was a respite from the busy, go, go, GO of a Disney vacation. It was fantastic as a place to meet and hang with friends. You never felt rushed. I especially liked the way the staff took great care of you. The servers went out of their way to make you feel comfortable and they were proactive in trying to meet your needs.

The Captain's Grill is gone but not forgotten.

@disneymagicgirl Yes!! We did actually go to the Crew Cup Lounge one night and were pleasantly surprised by it. I got clam chowder and my husband got the shrimp cocktail and we split the tomato and mozzarella sandwich. It was all so, so good!

@Best_Vacation_EVER! I agree with you that there are TONS of really yummy options within walking distance. The problem we had was that every night we were there it was a torrential downpour (we lived in Tampa for a year so we are used to the afternoon storm but this was much heavier and lasted longer than usual) so everyone left the parks en mass. We didn't want to get drenched either so we were limited to the non-TS options since all were booked (except the first night when I got a last minute Cape May). We did have a car but it was raining so hard we didn't want to walk all the way to the car and drive somewhere to have dinner while we sat in soaking wet clothes.

I don't think the OP is asking for a value style foodcourt. Something more along the line of Gasparilla Grill, Captain Cook's, or the quick service place at the Contemporary. The name escapes me. All of those options are better than the QS options at BC, and they're all extremely different from a value food court.

Completely agree! We stayed at the BC for the first time last September and loved the resort but the only thing we didn't love was the QS options at the Marketplace. I do love that they finally added mickey waffles to the breakfast menu last year, but for lunch and dinner we got tired of flatbreads and lunchmeat sandwiches. We did order from Hurricane Hanna's one day at the pool to get some nuggets and burgers, so that was good as well. I just wish they had chicken nuggets and more hot sandwiches in the Marketplace. It definitely wasn't a deal breaker because we are going back to the BC in September because we loved it so much.

Yes it does lack in dining options but we never found it to be a problem. My kids aren't big breakfast people so once or twice we got bagels or a muffin at the Marketplace before heading to the parks. Other days I let them grab something while at the park. It's vacation so I let them eat crap most of the time. Then for lunch we usually eat that in the park before heading back to the resort for our midday break at the pool. If they wanted something else I would get them something from HH's which we really enjoyed. Then dinner was back at the park. We also had Boardwalk Bakery sandwiches on night. They were really good! Plus there are so many options in the Epcot WS. Even in the rain we don't mind going out.

I think WDW is just about the only resort I've ever stayed at that had food courts and I've stayed in 5 star and little mom and pop motels where you had to share your couch with roaches. We are staying in a Westin on Jekyll Island the end of this month, paying as much as a deluxe WDW resort and there is one restaurant, a pool bar and grill and a grab and go coffee shop, that's it. From the pictures the coffee shop looks about like the ones in the deluxe resorts at WDW. This is pretty much the norm anywhere else I've ever stayed and that includes all inclusives in the Carrabean.

You really can't compare resorts outside of Disney. But at Disney, Deluxe resorts cost a lot more then moderates and values. There is a certain expectation that you are going to get more from booking a deluxe. That is not always the case depending on what your priorities are. For me, variety of counter service options and great bus service are priorities. You aren't necessarily going to get that at a Deluxe Disney resort.

I absolutely love the BC. It is my favorite resort on property. I would agree that the marketplace is lacking in options. However, I remember the days when the Marketplace did not serve breakfast and the meal was served in the lobby. I definitely prefer the current location. Hurricane Hannah's good for lunch or dinner. The food is what I would expect from a Disney QS. I have also gotten breakfast from the Boardwalk Bakery. I second walking over Swolphin. They have some really great options.

I think it comes down to what people want/are excepting. I have stayed at POR and visited their food court. It was not for me. I thought it was hectic and loud, although they did offer a lot of choices. We do have DVC so tend to do a grocery order for breakfast and some snack items which probably biased my opinion. We always do TS for dinner (i hate to cook in normal day to day life, no way am I doing that on vacation). Either way BC/YC is an amazing resort and don't let the lack of QS options stop you from staying there.
