Debated whether or not to do this as DDs 7 and 10 are not much into princesses these days. So glad we did! The girls were just as excited to see the princesses as they were when they were littler. (It was Belle, Jasmine, Ariel, Aurora and Cinderella). And the food was very good. We like the Nordic buffet, and the entrees (pork chops and salmon) were fantastic. Juicy and well-seasoned. Liked it a lot better than the CRT breakfast we had a few years ago.

We're having lunch there and I'm glad to hear the food is good.

I was beginning to worry, because some places didn't have the best reviews and it sounded like you were paying more to meet the princesses than to each food.

To be honest, you are paying a premium to meet the princesses. At least they include photos with Belle in the price.

As with every restaurant, not everyone agrees about the food. Some folks find it too exotic for their tastes. The appetizer buffet does have a lot of smoked and pickled fish (which we love and some others don't), but it also has good salad and bread. The main courses are more conventional, but I think they're done quite well.

I LOVED it there...the Venison tenderloin was FANTASTIC!!!! Also the nordic style seafood was great if you like seafood.:thumbsup2

I have eaten there twice for lunch and have enjoyed it each time.:goodvibes Dh on the other hand is not that fond of the place. We didn't eat there this last trip, but our trip next summer I want to go back.

I loved the dinner too! The pork chop is DELICIOUS :)

I"m glad to hear that you enjoyed your meal. My family loves Akershus! I love the food - both the cold bar and the entrees. The kids have always had good character experiences here. I'll be there for dinner in about a week and a half. Your brief review just fueled my excitement!

We did too! I had the salmon and DD + SIL had the beef tips. I'm a picky eater and was very happy with the meal.

We have only had breakfast there, but booked an ARD for lunch for our next trip. I wasn't to excited, because it looked expensive compared to the menu listed on Allears, but I'm feeling a lot better after reading the above comments.

I have an ADR for dinner at Akershus for our upcoming October trip too...it'll be our first time. so glad to hear these reviews!! :goodvibes

I had dinner there as well!

The appetizer bar was pretty good and it was neat to try out a few new foods. I had the Norwegian meatballs and I knew it'd be hit or miss based on reviews. They were OK, but I liked my friend's Mushroom Ravioli much better. But by far, the best thing about the whole meal was the desserts! I loved the desserts so much, I got the recipe for Rice Cream online and made it last night....plus....I may or may not be eating some right now.

The princess interaction was good, it was a nice atmosphere. My only complaint is my reservation was for 8 PM, and for some reason they sort of "forgot" about my table when it came to desserts. We got ours after the majority of the people who were seated at the same time came out...which made it so we literally only saw the last minute of Illuminations.

If your reservation is later, I wouldn't hesitate to request your desserts a bit early so you can make it to Illuminations. =]

I much preferred Akershus' dinner to CRT's dinner, having done both on the same trip last month. DD5 agrees, and wants to go back to Akershus on "every trip".

I do disagree that the menu is particularly exotic; I feel it could be more exotic by quite a bit. At the same time, I found the food to be extremely well executed and overall delicious, the service to be first-rate, and the character interactions to be excellent. Aside from the small array of pickled fish and a few Norwegian desserts, it seemed like a pretty Americanized menu and buffet, in my opinion.

There was nothing wrong with the service or characters at CRT, but the food was very average. I went in knowing that we were going for the experience of dining in the castle, and for that purpose it was worth every penny, but as a dinner experience it was underwhelming.
