I've just learnt that my forthcoming trip to sumptuous Florida will be in the height of lovebug season. Are they really much of a nuisance? Thanks!

I have seen thim thick as rain but in the past few years not so bad, but you never realy know till they come.

I will say buy the time you get to the hotel (if your driving from out of state and hit thim in the norther borders) your paint can already be ruined.

They weren't bad this past May as they were in previous years...I havent seen one in almost 3 weeks

I drove to WDW 4 years ago during the height of love bug season (and I hadn't lived in FL for years so I completely forgot about this!). Black car + love bugs + very hot Florida sun = ruined paint job.

My Prius was only 3 years old at the time and I was quite upset. I do believe that there are car washes that specialize in getting them off the vehicle before they get "baked" on, but I didn't know this at the time.

They're pretty much gone now and weren't too bad in our area. I understand they're worse near the coast. September usually isn't as bad as May.

LoveBugs in FLA are hard to judge year to year.Bieng a native I have learned to prepare my vehicles for them.Screen the grill,yes they will clog up a radiator and a fresh coat of wax weekly.

We saw a few in Disney when we got there on May 15th. On the 18th we headed for Cocoa Beach for 3 nights. Nothing could have prepared us for what we drove through and experienced once we got there. It was like something out of a horror movie! We had to go buy a straw broom just to sweep them off of the door in order to enter our rented condo. The next morning we thought about going back to Orlando (still had park passes), but decided to stick it out at the beach. They got less and less over the next couple days, and when we left on Sat. they seemed almost gone. The locals told us they hadn't seen them that bad in 20 years. Lucky us.
