Okay I kept skipping all the posts on lovebugs because I thought it was just a fall bug but I just read that they come out in May as well. How bad are they May 8-15? I am feeling a little bit disappointed now that I have our first trip to WDW planned for a buggy time.

Love bug seasons are Sept-Oct and April-May (that's in my experience, not official ;) ). The bugs aren't that bad except when they splat against your windshield--other than that, they aren't terribly bothersome.

We were just at WDW at the end of September. My 5 yr old dgd wanted to know why the bugs had two heads.

It's funny, because I think these bugs must have built in calendars! They start to appear in April are gone by May 5ish.
They come around again the first week of September, and are gone by Oct 2-3ish EVERY year.

They are all gone now unti next April. Thank heavens. They wreak havoc on the car paint as the acid in their bodies will eat away at the paint finish if you don't wash your car enough.

if you drive through a swarm of them, it looks like someone did a drive-by on your car with a caulk gun. they'll harmless otherwise.

We were there May of 2006 the last 2 weeks, and they were all over the WL bus stop, and there were some at the pool. One day it was really bad, they were all over the benches, water fountain, and near the vending machines.

Just returned yesterday from WDW and believe me they are not gone yet! Had my car detailed before the trip and spent most of today getting the things off my grill.... They really don't bother you and they don't bite but they can be a nuisance especially if you drive. I noticed them more at the resort than at the parks. (POFQ)

They are no where to be seen where I spend most of my time (MK area)
I also don't see them around the driveway in the mornings anymore either.
One or two on the front of the car is all.
This was the worst Sept in years for them.

They're pretty much gone now. They won't hurt you, but they're annoying. Driving locally isn't bad and they'll usually just hitch a ride, but on the highways where you go 60 MPH and faster you'll have hundreds of them splattered on your car in no time. At the height of the season it can be like driving through flack.

I was told that some researchers imported them from someplace (I think Africa) because they ate mosquitos as their main diet there and the plan was to use them to control the mosquitos in Florida. It seems they either didn't like Florida mosquitos or discovered something they like better.

I'll still take them over cleaning snow and ice off my car...

We were in WDW from May 12-20 this year & the love bugs were all over...but only at the main pool of the CBR! That's the only place I saw them. We were at both water parks & I never saw them there or at the 4 parks.

We were there this past May and they were a pain. It was actually the first time we ever saw them.

We just got back from Disney on the 29th of September, and the whole week we were there they were HORRIBLE! (September 22-29).

It was so gross, they would fly and land on people (wouldn't bite, but its creepy to have them on your clothes!), you would see them smashed everywhere (including on benches, you wouldn't notice and you would sit down, get up and have smashed bugs on you!! especially on the outside attractions like the backstage tour at MGM, there were literally hundreds swarming around), :crazy2: it was just really gross.

Hope they don't bother you in May!

Wash off the dead love bugs from your car as soon as possible. They can ruin a paint job!

I've gone to WDW the past 3 years in May (middle of the month) and there have been lots of lovebugs everytime. As others have said, I noticed them more at the resorts than at the parks.
