We're back from another truly AMAZING Walt Disney World and Disney Cruiseline vacation!

Last February, my DH, my mom, her boyfriend, my brother, his girlfriend, my cousin and his family all went on a Walt Disney World vacation together. We had such a great time that we decided to all go away again -- you can read my TR by clicking here It's My Big 4-0 So We're All Gonna Go to Disney! Trip Report - completed w/ highlights video
There were a few minor changes to this years trip, as my brother & his girlfriend ended up cancelling, as well as my aunt who was unable to go – both due to work. The best way to recap the - who, where, when and why of this trip would be by reading my pre-trip report-you can click this link to read my PTR -- Here we go again - WDW & DCL with Uncle Tom & Aunt Jen! PTR

In the meantime I'll quickly explain the "who"

I'm Jen, (a.k.a. Aunt Jen) a WDW fanatic, DVC member & a former CM (we lived in Celebration from 2002-2009 until my DH got transferred to the North East).

DH – Tom (a.k.a. Uncle Tom) Engineer - also loves WDW

My Mom (a.k.a. Aunt Kathy) Also a DVC meber, and WDW lover. I am so happy that my husband was able to transfer to NJ so I can see my family more often! My mom and I love traveling together, and we always take a mother/daughter trip every fall. This year we'll be going on the Disney Fantasy! I can't wait

My Cousin Brian -he is my mom’s godson. His mom was my mother’s older sister and she was my godmother, sadly she passed away a few years ago from cancer. His dream was to go to WDW and my mom made sure that happened in February 2011 and now I’m making sure he goes again in 2012. This year was my turn to bring his family. He is the funniest person I know!

Danielle - Brian's wife, and one of the nicest people that I know. She is a great mom, great wife, and a great friend.

Victoria - 5 year old Princess in training! She loves everything princess! I Love her to bits - can't get enough time with these girls!

Samantha - 2.5 -- no terrible 2's with this one! Just a lovey-dovey happy girl. I lover her to bits too!

My DH and I do not have any children of our own, so we LOVE spoiling the girls as much as we can!

Here's my DH and I at the Boardwalk last year....boy, my hair was DARK!

This years trip was from February 4th – February 12th 2012.

Day 1 -Saturday, February 4th 2012:

My DH and I were picked up by a town car at 5:00 in the morning on Saturday morning as we had a very early flight out (7:50 AM). This would have normally been ok, but sadly, my husband’s grandmother passed away during the week and we had been running back and forth from NJ to Long Island all week. The funeral was Friday, and we didn’t get home from being with his family until about 10:30 pm – then, I STARTED to pack for our trip, which kept me up until about 3:00 AM and before I knew it our alarm clock went off. The craziness of the week really put us in a different place, after going through the funeral and all, we were emotionally drained, and physically and mentally exhausted. I don’t think the fact that we were going on vacation even set in until after we got through airport security and got a cup of coffee while waiting to board our flight. My mom was also on our flight, and she met us at the airport (we live in completely different areas of the state). So, it was great to see my mom that morning and we all had seats next to each other. We landed in Orlando at around 10:15 or so and picked up our luggage and rental car– we reserved a mini van as there would be 7 of us once my cousin and his family arrived on Sunday. We were so happy to arrive and get checked into our rooms at the Animal Kingdom Lodge – Jambo House. My DH and I are DVC members and my mom is a DVC member too. So, we had a value studio booked, and my mom had her own standard studio booked. Our room surprisingly was ready, and we had savannah view. After we checked out our rooms, it was time for lunch! We were on the DDP, and were going to use our QS for lunch. We decided to go to SSR as we love the artist’s palate. Lots of choices for lunch there (I love the Saratoga Springs salad…sooo yummy with chicken, apples, blueberries!) and we also wanted to say a quick hello to our DVC guide. After lunch we headed over to the Boardwalk to take a walk and eventually made our way into Epcot. It was a beautiful afternoon –sunny and in the 80s! We ended up making our way around WS, did some shopping and spent a few hours there and then we went to Publix to pick up some things to have in the room (water, apple juice for the kids – nothing exciting) and then headed back to the hotel to get ready for dinner at Boma at 6:00. Boma is my favorite restaurant lately. I just love the selection there. Lots of choices for everyone. Our friends, Adrianna and Gill who were our neighbors when we lived in Celebration joined us, and we had a great evening. We ended up in the lounge/bar area after dinner catching up with our friends, and finally went up to our rooms at about 10:30. My DH and I were EXHAUSTED! and we were able to fall asleep right away……but, I was excited because tomorrow morning we were going to the airport to get the girls!!

Here we are after dinner with our good friends

Up next.....the girls arrive and our trip gets well underway!

Here’s a short little youtube photo slideshow recap of our trip – and the song that we all kept singing during this vacation! Enjoy!

Sunday, February 5th 2012

Well, in my last post, I told of how we drifted right off to sleep…...unfortunately the fact that the a/c in the room completely conked out during the middle of the night ….yes, DEAD – no fan, no a/c – NADA woke us up at about 3:00 AM. Not too thrilled about that because we never were really able to get back to sleep. Then at about 6:00 AM my husband called the Front Desk and we waited for someone to call us back….and we waited….and waited… at 7:00 my DH decided to get into the shower and then go down to the front desk…..while he was in the shower the drain – CLOGGED. Nothing like waiting for a foot of shower water to drain before I can get in…..never happened. So, he went downstairs to speak to a manager. Finally they sent someone up….drain still clogged, room still hot and the maintenance person said he’d tell the FD manager to get us moved. BUT, there wasn’t a room ready so we’d have to check out and then re-check in and wait for a room to be ready. I was so glad that my mom had a room on the same floor as I needed to get showered/dressed to leave for the airport by 9:15. So, we moved all of our luggage into her room, and I got ready over there and then we were able to head out to the airport to get my cousin and his family.

We made it to the airport a bit earlier than expected, and we waited for their flight to land. My husband made a cute sign “Welcome Princess Victoria and Princess Samantha” and wore a black “chauffer” hat as we greeted them off their flight! We got their luggage, and made our way back to the van, where we all piled in (at this point we realized we were going to need to do some creative packing when we all leave for the cruise on Thursday morning….it seemed we all over packed for this trip).

We get to the resort, and I take the girls out to the savannah, while my mom helps my cousin and his wife check in (I booked them a room using my dvc points). In the meantime, my husband parks the car and meets up with them at the front desk and checks in to our new room – which ends up being right next door to my cousin and his family! We have pool views now, and are very happy that all the plumbing and A.C. works in our room! We are all hungry by this point, and go down to the Mara (AKL QS restaurant) for lunch. Walking passed the pool with a 2.5 year old and a 5 year old…..not the best idea – as all they want to do now is go into the pool! We bribe them into the restaurant for lunch with the promise of cupcakes, and we all enjoy a nice lunch. We decide that we will show them the resort and then head out to the MK! The girls LOVED being able to see giraffe’s and zebra’s on the savannah. They also took quite a liking to the flamingo’s and wanted to stay and check out the animals for a little while. We even took a ride up to Kidani to see the animals out on that savannah before heading out to the MK.

Up next....we arrive at the Magic Kingdom!

Hi there! I'm glad I stumbled upon your new TR! I haven't been on DIS for a while -- work & family have my scheduled swamped lately.

I am getting ready to cruise on the Dream, so I'm impatiently waiting to read that part of your TR!

How many days were you at WDW before going on the Dream? I'm thinking of book-ending our 4 day Dream cruise. I really need to make a decision on that VERY soon.

Looking forward to reading some more!

Hi WDWLove! Good to see you again! We were at WDW for 5 days before leaving for the Dream. we didn't "book end" our cruise, just did Saturday - Thursday at wDW, then left for the cruise on Thursday morning and went to the airport from the cruise. For us, this worked out because we ran around WDW for 5 days, and then relaxed while on the cruise. I will say, 3 days are not enough for us to cruise. My next cruise will be a 7 night on the Fantasy (and then we have a 4 day booked on the dream for next Feb ....but I'm trying to convince my DH that we need another 7 night!)

We arrived at the MK at about 5:00 PM (not as early as we had planned, but the girls were really enjoying the savannah at Jambo house so we weren’t going to make them leave) and after taking the necessary “arrival” photos in front of the MK, we headed inside and right into see the princesses. Last year was the girls first trip to WDW, and what they remember and love the most is visiting with the princesses. Cinderella, Aurora and Belle were more than happy to give out hugs, autographs and take photos with our little princesses in training. This may have taken up a bit of park time, but it’s what they wanted to do, and this trip was all about the girls. As we made our way up Main St. USA and took a few photos we decided to see if we couldn’t get on Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin before our ADR at LTT. – There seemed to be a bit of a wait for this – I think 25 minutes. So we were only on the line for about 5 minutes when we realized we better head over to Liberty Tree Tavern to be there on time for our ADR. This was the first time I’d eaten dinner at LTT (I’ve had lunch there a while back) and it was really good! Everyone was quite happy with the meal. There is a LOT of food. The only thing I wish was that there were more of the baked sweet potatoes/cranberry that just seemed to be a "filler" on the plate that had the turkey on it. But, I really enjoyed the dinner here, and I've booked it again for our next trip in May. After dinner, we headed back to Main St. USA to get ready for fireworks, but my cousin started to not feel so well (he is a diabetic) and said he was going to take the bus back to the resort – we didn’t want him to go it alone, so we all decided to head back. It was a LONG day for them (they had a very early flight as well that morning) and the kids were starting to get tired. We headed out and just as we made it to our car the sky opened up and began POURING RAIN! We were glad that we headed out when we did. We went back to Jambo house, and the guys went up to the rooms with the kids (to watch what was left of the Superbowl), while my mom, my cousins wife and I went down to the Mara to get some tea/coffee and relax a bit. Right when I walked into our room my husband told me that the Giants won the Superbowl!

Here we are on Main Street USA!

Up next....Day 3 - The girls first time at the Animal Kingdom!

Yes! An update :cool1::cool1: I wondered what happened to ya! Still IMPATIENTLY waiting to hear the Dream part of your TR - I'm countin down the seconds till we leave for the Dream!

Sorry WDWLove - life's been hectic, so my TR kinda got pushed to the bottom of the "must do" list. But, I'm back and I'm ready to get the rest of my TR finished as soon as I can. I thank you for being my only devoted follower of my TR's! I was beginning to wonder if I should just give up and not finish. But, since you're reading along, I'll keep writing! I bet you're super excited to go on the Dream next month! I will say that we absolutely loved the ship and I can't wait to get on the Fantasy on September 1st! I'll be posting more of my TR tonight so please stay tuned!

Monday, February 6th, 2012

We woke up this morning and got ready to go to the Animal Kingdom. Last year on our trip with my cousin we didn’t go to the AK (that was their 1st trip to WDW), and since the girls loved seeing animals, we thought it would be nice to bring them there this year. We all agreed to meet in the lobby at 9:00. Victoria knocked on our door at about 8:30 or so and asked if she could come in our room. So, we finished our breakfast and gave her some fruit and a muffin and then we let my cousin know that we’d meet them in the lobby (we wanted to take Victoria down to see if there were any animals out on the Savannah). Samantha was now ready to go too, so we brought her with us. My mom was already in the lobby by now, so we took the girls out really quickly –there weren’t any animals out there at that time. We met up with my cousin and his wife in the lobby, had my DH bring the van around and eventually got on our way to the Animal Kingdom. When we entered the park I sent my DH ahead of us all to get some fast passes for the Safari. This way, I figured we could take our time making our way through the park. It was cool watching people who’ve never been there before take in that park. We eventually met up with my DH and only had to wait about 15 minutes until our FP (we really took our time going in and out of shops, taking photos, etc.) Of course, everyone thoroughly enjoyed the safari (watching the girls reaction when seeing a baby elephant….priceless!)

After this we had a few snacks as we walked over to Dinoland USA! We took the girls onto TriceraTop Spin……twice – they loved it, and it was their first “ride” of this trip. We wanted to take Victoria onto Primevil Whirl but she wasn’t tall enough. She was tall enough for Dinosaur – and I wasn’t so sure it was a good idea to take her onto that, but she said she wanted to go, so my mom, my cousin, his wife Danielle, and myself went on while my DH stayed behind with Samantha. My instincts were correct……Victoria was VERY afraid on this ride….she forgot about how scary it was when the ride was over and we ended up in the gift shop! She picked out 2 dinosaurs – one for her and one for Sam. I was amused by this….she was terrified of the dinosaurs on the ride, but as soon as she saw toy dinosaurs she wanted them! We walked out of this ride and saw my DH and Sam online to meet Pluto and Goofy (Sam LOVES all characters – Victoria the 5 year old – TERRIFIED of the large characters) so, she stood back a bit and watched while Sam got to meet Goofy and Pluto. We were all getting hungry – and HOT (it was about 90 degrees this day) so we thought we’d make our way back to the hotel for lunch and the pool. On our way we stopped again so Sam could meet Pooh and his friends and then we left the Animal Kingdom.

We got back to Jambo House, got changed into our bathing suits, and met up at the Mara for lunch. While this isn’t my favorite resort counter service, it’s still pretty decent. I typically get the Mara salad, but today I opted for a burger, and for my dessert 0 of course I had the Zebra Domes! After lunch we headed outside to the pool, where the kids played for a good part of the afternoon. At about 3:00 it was time to leave the pool and get ready for dinner – which was at Ohana!

Up next…Dinner at Ohana and then off to the Magic Kingdom!

Wow! I'm new to the boards (my daughter suggested I take a look at this site before our upcoming trip this May). I'm retired and have been reading trip reports for the past few days. I am enjoying reading yours very much! I also plan on reading your previous trip report now that I'm caught up. It looks like you had a terrific time. I'm about to go stay at the Animal Kingdom Lodge for the 1st time so if I'm enjoying hearing about the savannah and the pool.

Thanks for reading along! You'll be sure to find lots great things to read here on the DIS! The AKL is an amazing resort. I love the theming, the restaurants, and of course being able to see the animals. The pool is also pretty nice. I find that even when it seems busy, you can always find a nice quiet spot to relax. Also, on certain nights they have movies out there by the pool. Be sure to check on all the activities that are going on while you're there. You'll find that there is tons of things to do at this resort.

Before we headed out to dinner, we of course took the girls down to see the animals on the savannah (again). Samantha kept saying “I want to see all animals in the world” – she said this every time we were near the lobby. She knows that my DH and I would take her whenever she wanted. Also, Victoria liked to stand on the rocks near the rocking chairs and treat us to a “story time”. It was like her own little stage.
IMG_1919800x604.jpg

We had a 5:30 ADR, and we got there about 15 minutes early and we were seated in about 5 minutes….best wait time I’ve ever had at Ohana! My cousin was not feeling well and decided that he would catch up with us at the MK later on if he was feeling better. This trip was a little difficult for him this year, as his diabetes was much harder to control in the past few months, and he ended up in the hospital for over a week about a month before we left for vacation. Ohana was great as usual – although I will say, I’m not a fan of the lo mein style noodles and broccoli – I liked it better when you used to get rice and mixed veggies. We were in and out of Ohana in about an hour, and on our way to MK. Our goal was to get on as many attractions as possible!

5 year olds find “hiney’s” funny on the tiki statues…and want to see them up close
IMG_1925800x634.jpg

Our first stop….Meeting “the” mouse. Only Samantha would do this. Victoria is still a bit intimidated by the bigger characters. My mom stayed with her until we were done. We also had a great surprise that Minnie was also there tonight!

After having some LENGTHY conversations with the princesses, Miss Victoria decided that she was ready for some rides! We made our way over to Buzz Lightyear, because Sam could join us on this one.
IMG_2135533x800.jpg

And then my DH and I took Victoria onto the Astro Orbiter. This was cool to do at night. I haven’t been on this since I was a teenager! My mom and Danielle took Sam onto the Carousel of Progress while we were blasting off!

After this we headed over to Fantasyland. And we were able to get onto quite a few attractions – Winnie the Pooh, Peter Pan, and It’s a Small World. When we got off of Small World for the 2nd time the park was just about to close so off we went, back to the Animal Kingdom Lodge for a MUCH needed good night’s sleep!

Next up…a very cold/damp morning at DHS!

I am enjoying your TR !!! We leave in 8 days for four nights at AKL and then the five day double dip on the Dream. We are beyond excited, so I can't wait to read that portion of your trip.

Hi :wave2: thanks for reading my TR! 8 days will get here before ya know it! You will LOVE the Dream! We had an amazing time! I've done a double dip on the Wonder and having that extra day at CC is so great - its like having an insurance policy -- better odds of getting to CC incase you aren't able to dock on the 1st day due to bad weather.

Tuesday, February 7th

Well the lovely sun and warm 90 degree temps are GONE. Today is COLD and DAMP. It rained quite heavily over night and into the early morning. We woke up today and the original plan was to go to Epcot. We arrived at about 10:00 a.m. and there were TONS of people waiting in line to get into the main entrance. After waiting on line over 10 minutes without moving an inch we decided to scrap Epcot this morning and head over to DHS instead. I forgot to mention that every morning Victoria asked if we could stay on vacation for 120 days. Every day it was still "We have 120 left of vacation, right?" Once we made it back to the car my cousin asked if we could head over to CVS to pick up his prescriptions. It was drizzling a bit so taking a little side trip now was a good idea. We drove through Celebration, and showed my cousin and his family where we lived from 2002-2009 and gave them a quick tour of the town. When we got to CVS (over on 192) my mom noticed the Starbucks and nearly jumped out of the van! No one else needed a coffee fix…except Victoria who told my mom she loves coffee (my cousin says they let her have a sip of decaf every once in a while). Of course my mom comes out of Starbucks with a coffee for herself….and a small decaf for miss Victoria….I felt left out! So my mom shared with me.

When we got to DHS it was MUCH less crowded than what we had witnessed at Epcot an hour or so ago. First up….Playhouse Disney. The girls LOVED this, and we hadn’t done it last year so they were super excited. It was VERY cute! Of course our next thing to do was Voyage of the Little Mermaid…where Samantha was chosen as Ariel’s helper and got to use the microphone to welcome everyone by saying “Welcome to the Voyage of the Little Mermaid”….which when your two and a half comes out….“A Little Mermaid” – close enough! We all cheered her on and in we went….where both girls hid their eyes from Ursula. Too long to wait for TSM, so we did the Great Movie Ride, and then went over to Star Tours (which was closed last February when we took them on their 1st WDW vacation). My cousin wanted to go on this attraction last year, - in fact it was #1 on his list and he was really disappointed when it was closed. So, this year he made sure to go and see it…..and then spend a fair amount of $$ in the store after the ride.

Next up….LUNCH! But where? DHS is not my favorite place to have CS. So, we went to Starring Rolls and got some pretty good sandwiches….and AWESOME cupcakes for dessert! After this, the girls played catch with a CM. It’s funny how these little things are so fun to kids. Playing catch with a CM with a red rubber ball was just as fun as going on the attractions. My DH, Danielle and I then went over to RNR while my cousin and my mom stayed with the girls and watched the performers. When we came out it started to drizzle again, and the girls were getting tired and needed a nap so we headed back to the resort to relax until dinner which was conveniently scheduled for Boma this evening.

Dinner was AMAZING as usual. Boma is my FAVORITE TS restaurant. Everyone was very hungry so we all ate well and then decided to burn some of the calories off by heading over to Epcot. We were able to get onto the Seas with Nemo, Soarin’ (without Sam who was too short….my mom stayed with her) and then Test Track (again, Sam wasn’t tall enough so my mom and Danielle stayed with her). Victoria LOVED test track! She couldn’t stop talking about it for the next 2 days. All she wanted to do was ride it again. It was starting to rain and just about 9:00 so we headed back to the resort because tomorrow morning we had an appointment in the MK at BBB!

Great update! Looking forward to reading some more. It seems like you had a good amount of time at the parks before going on your cruise. I've been on 1 disney cruise about 5 years ago (again, my daughter surprised me with this as a gift) on the Wonder. It was one of the best vacations I'd ever been on. So, I'm sure your family had a great time.

Great update! Boy, you're on a roll! I love the photo you took in front of TOT! Too bad you couldn't get the whole gang in there - but I know how hard it is to get everyone in one spot. Keep up the great updates!

Great update! Looking forward to reading some more. It seems like you had a good amount of time at the parks before going on your cruise. The cruise was definitely a highlight. For us it was great because we got to see the kids experience it, plus we got to see the Dream. Even though I was at WDW for 5 nights prior to the cruise, they FLEW by. It was so exhausting that by the 2nd day of the cruise it all caught up to me! We usually go at a MUCH slower pace when just the 2 of us go.

Glad you're still hanging in there for my updates! The thing with getting everyone in a photo is that I thought that I did....but didn't realize it until I got home and downloaded all of my photos. I'm still mad at myself for not getting everyone in a photo together!

Good morning sunshine! It was a warm and sunny day – thank goodness. We got out early this morning and headed over to the MK as we had a 10:15 at BBB. As soon as we got into the park we headed straight back and got there about 15 minutes early. This was a special gift for Victoria and Sam from my DH and I. We checked in and waited for our turn. I was very impressed with BBB. Not only the theming, décor, etc. but the amount of time they took with each “princess”. The only thing that I wished was that they would have seated the girls next to each other. We would have waited longer for this if we knew it was an option. We felt bad going back and forth in between people taking photos to be able to see both of our girls and get photos/video.

After BBB we went on It’s a Small World, Mickey’s Philharmagic, Peter Pan and then my cousin called and said he was over by Pirates with my DH so we made our way over there…and on our way we ran into the Fairy Godmother!

After Pirates we made our way onto Aladdin’s Magic Carpet ride, and the Swiss Family Robinson Tree House. After this we were all hungry and the girls were needing a break. On our way out we lucked out and saw Snow White crossing Main St. USA and there was only 1 other person waiting to see her, so we got right on line!

We decided to go to the Wilderness Lodge for lunch, and my husband wanted to rent a pontoon boat. Well, lunch was interesting….the girls needed naps! So, we ended up back at AKL where my cousin and the girls got their naps, Danielle got some laundry done and my DH, my mom, and myself ended up going over to DTD….we didn’t need naps…we wanted to shop! While at DTD my husband rented a pontoon boat and we took a nice, relaxing ride while enjoying some Ghirardellli ice cream!

Up next....Dinner at 1900 PF and the case of the missing cell phone!

I am really enjoying your TR!! The girls are so adorable and I loved their BBB princess dresses and hair! I can't wait for my granddaughter to be old enough to treat her (she turns 1 yr old in a couple of weeks)!
