Hi, I really love the new quick-action animation style in the new Mickey Mouse cartoons, so I've changed my avatar to the "new" Mickey, as you can see.

I'm a longtime fan of Disney animation, no matter what the style, but this style is so good! Anyone else with me?

Yes! I very much enjoy the artistry of it. It feels like a genuine creative effort, versus just something designed to appeal to kids (which is the impression I get from the 3-D Playhouse Disney stuff).

What's your favourite cartoon so far? I like the one where Minnie has a mountain-top chateau and Mickey has to keep quiet in order to avoid an avalanche, and meets up with a Yeti. All of the flowers and buildings are in the same style as It's a Small World, created by Mary Blair. But there are so many that are favourites, it's just so hard to write them all down. This one's at the top of my list along with the Camping episode.

I'll be the odd man out here. I don't like it. Reminds me of so many of the cartoons on Cartoon Network, I guess.

I don't get the Cartoon Network in Canada (as I said before, Canadians get shafted by the US regularly), so when I first saw this style of animation I was hooked.

Oh, it's hard to pick. I have to say, though, I laughed really hard at Captain Donald.

"Daisy loves a man in uniform!"

"I thought you said if he kept up with the lies and tantrums you were done with him?"

I also like the one where a cat tries to catch and eat Mickey's fish, "Nibbles". What are the odds... butter, flour, and lemon juice? ROFL!

You are not alone my friend. I own just about every short Disney animation created. I find the new version unwatchable. They seem thrown together and the animation is subpar.

I do too! I also collect and have most Warner Brothers shorts as well. But love the new animation.

This dude can not abide with the new style Mickey. However, if it brings more youngsters into the fold I can deal with it. For a fresh take on classic Mickey please see "Get A Horse." Very entertaining and available as a bonus feature on the "Frozen" disc. :earsboy:

I like that one too, mostly because of the style of the art! That one and the one where Mickey and Donald are buying burgers on the boardwalk and Mickey ends up naked are my favorites. We stream them on the Disney channel app and take turns picking which one to watch. DH picks Mumbai Madness every time.

We saw the new series for the first time on our cruise in 2014, so I think there's some nostalgia built in to why we like them so much.

The producer is a Cartoon Network alum.

The animation is high quality and expensive to produce. Whether anyone likes the stylized nature of the animation is another thing.

Cable Car Chaos. Totally inaccurate depiction of just about everything, but I still like it.

As for the style, it's more like impressionism vs realism. You either like it or you don't.

I also like how they've brought back certain characters that fit into the story well. Using Jose Carioca as a Brazilian soccer announcer was brilliant.

They also brought back the man who did original voice of Scrooge McDuck in his last Disney cartoon before he passed away. I believe it was the cartoon entitled "NO!".

dan40 - I like it too! Cartoon Network is on in my house a lot, but I do not see the similarities that someone mentions above. I think the new stuff is very unique!

The producer is Paul Rudish, and he's worked on Powerpuff Girls, Dexter's Laboratory, and Samurai Jack.

The use of painted watercolor backgrounds is similar to Samurai Jack. The stylized characters may not be exactly like another CN show, but I find it more a variation on theme. I don't know how far he could have taken the character redesign, since they are very familiar characters.

I was going to mention Dexter's Laboratory earlier, but I didn't... The style of animation, although not the same, is similar to the new Mickey Mouse shorts.

Maybe so. However on an inflation adjusted cost basis, I would imagine the hand drawn shorts from years past were far more expensive to produce. The quality of the animation is a subjective opinion not based on how expensive it is in my opinion. However, to each there own. I'm glad that at a minimum they are creating new material based on the fab 5.

Ok I know we are talking animated cartoons with anthropomorphic animals and all, but to me the old style looked more realistic (and I mean the shorts that were shortened into "Have a Laugh"). These remind me of my half-axed attempt of drawing a character at the Animation Academy.
