Thought it was a great segment and I can't wait to see if Teresa tries to concure her fear of Tower of Terror and Rockin' Roller Coaster. Personally, I used to like Space Mountain until I rode in the very first seat of the car and I hated it. I was like this the whole time :scared1:. I no longer ride it.

yeah Teresa and Kathy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

loved loved loved the segment!!!!

Teresa, i'm so glad to hear you loved peter pan!!! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Yes, but this week I have to get on a plane and they kept talking about exploding engines, and plane crashed! I'm terrified to fly always, and this didn't help!:scared1:

I'm right there with you gals.....there are certain rides I refuse to go on !!! I've been on Space Mountain when my DD was young....now that she has a DD of her own, I let them go on and I ride the People Mover....and my DBF rides it alone when we go.

I also have never been on the Teacups, Astro Orbiter, ToT, RnRC, Mission Space, Test Track, EE, and Dinosaur....these are just not for me. I don't mind waiting for other family members to go on them....sometimes I ride something else, shop, or I make a fast pass run.

It's not for fear that I don't get on them...I know how I am and I don't like roller coasters that much.

I don't feel like I'm missing anything either.....

I love the more intense rides at Disney, and would never consider a trip to Disney complete without a ride on Space Mountain, Tower of Terror and Expedition Everest. For me, they are iconic and completely intertwined with the Disney experience. With that in mind, I actually thought it was really interesting that there are people that are Disney experts to the point that they're actually on one of the premier Disney travel podcasts, and yet they've never been on these rides. Just goes to show that there are so many different ways to enjoy yourself at WDW, that there really is something for everyone there.

Congrats on conquering those fears, Teresa and Kathy!

After hearing this segment, I can totally relate!

My very first trip to WDW, my family took me on Space Mountain. I was only 8 years old and let's just say that what happened on that ride, my family still remembers and teases me about to this day. After the ride had started I began screaming "Stop the ride! Stop the ride!" and "Make it stop!!!!". My dad thought that I was going to try and get out of the rocket as it was moving, so while I was screaming he had his hands on my shoulders keeping me in the ride. After we had gotten off the ride a woman and her son said to us "Did you hear that person screaming during the ride?". Never the less, that experience made me afraid of the dark. Every ride we went on at WDW I would cry, even the Barnstormer. Fast forward 8 years later and I'm 16. I decided to face my fears and go on all the rides I was afraid of. Needless to say, it was my first time on RnR and I loved it! I actually loved all of the rides that I was afraid of before. Now that i'm 20, I cannot get enough of those rides like Tower of Terror or Rock n Roller Coaster.

So thank you for the segment! It was nice to be able to relate to someone else, and don't worry you gals are not the only ones who refuse to go on Space Mountain and other rides like that. My mom doesn't like them either, and she to will never go on them. Or so she says...

I thought it was funny/interesting that the Universal Halloween Horror Nights segement was right after Facing your Fears and Teresa was laughing and talking calmly about that. I have no problem with Space Mountain, but there is no way I would go to Halloween Horror Nights.

My kids dared me to ride ToT and I liked it. But no amount of them daring me will get me on RnRC. Nope, no way.

So I wish Kathy and Teresa luck with that one!

OMG...that segment was so funny.:rotfl2:

Not sure if it was Kathy and Theresa or comments from everyone else, but it was so funny!!

Keep up the good work!!

I know my limits and I will not be riding RnRC!!!!!! No amount of money could get me to do that ride.

i can't do RnRC either Kathy, but i'd be thrilled to take you on ToT!!!!
i don't remember, did you say you'd done the chicken exit there?
you should definitely do the chicken exit there so you can see the theming..
ToT has outstanding theming!! but the ride is a lot of fun too...
and i say that as someone who is TERRIFIED of regular elevators...

to give you an idea of how terrified i am of elevators - i refuse to take the elevator to my mom's apartment here....i walk up....all 16 flights to her 16th floor apartment!!

Beth, I did Tof T on a dare once. It was back in the day when you dropped once.

Since we are having a therapy session what is it about elevators that bothers you? That would be tough to walk 16 flights of stairs. Good exercise but tough! :) :)

I'm kind of with you on this Kathy!!! I think I would pass out. Tower of Terror?? Maybe.. for a small donation to GKTW I might be able to "face the fear".

Thank to everyone for your kind words and sharing your stories.. I knew we weren't alone with our fears!!

T.

same as what people are afraid of when they say they're afraid to fly...
it's not really a fear of flying (which i have too) but rather a fear of crashing...
same with an elevator....a fear of suddenly dropping 16 stories to be crushed like a bug on the bottom...

i guess it all boils down to fear of heights...

but for some reason i just love roller coasters...weird isn't it?
but i can't do coasters any more...too old....gotta know your limits and all that..but i can still do ToT...

i loved ToT back when it was one drop...
we once did it 17 times in a row when it was only one drop...
but no way would i be able to do that now...i get queasy after only one ride..
but i still love that one....controlled fear...it's not a 'real' elevator...if real elevators were as safe as ToT, i'd be willing to ride them...

(and yes, i've been stuck on a number of elevators...and been on them when they dropped a bit....enough to rattle my nerves....but it didn't phase anyone else at all....)

My feelings exactly! I have never had any problem with thrill rides anywhere. The bigger and badder, the better. But Halloween haunted houses/Halloween Horror Night? No way, no how!!! :scared1:

I subscribe to the theory that a ride is predictable. It will do what it is supposed to do, every time. It is well maintained (especially at WDW) and millions of riders have experienced it with no ill-effects (other than people with pre-existing conditions that shouldn't have ridden in the first place).

But a haunted house/trail/etc where people are jumping out at me and there is a chaotic atmosphere? Absolutely unpredictable. Anything could happen when humans are involved. And my HUGE phobia of death and dead bodies is really highlighted at a Halloween experience.

I thought about trying this year to "face my fears" like y'all, Kathy and Theresa- we have a Halloween Horror-type event at our local theme park and DD wants to go. But I just get sweaty and panicky even thinking about it- I think I'll have to be a weenie again this year.

Thanks for the explanation. That makes sense.

So I finally got a chance to listed to this segment. Interesting stuff! The thing that occurred to me at the end, is that the difference between not going on a ride because you're just too afraid to try it, and riding it and saying "I'm not going to ride that again!" is *choice*. In the first case, the fear is making the decision for you. After you've ridden it, you can then make a choice to not ride again, because you don't care for it, or whatever reason. There's a big difference between the two.

I was really proud of those who rode the London Eye despite their fears. Whether it was peer pressure or whatever, the fact is, they rode it, they dealt with it, and I didn't hear anyone saying they wished they hadn't done it. That was such an excellent ride, and those folks facing their fears made it even better.

Sayhello
