Love selling back textbooks!

Sold back two books and got $58 cash and 3 free iTunes. Not bad! Love getting that cash at the end of the semester. I've still got one textbook to return, hoping I get some for that one!

I wish I could have done that in college. Unfortunately I needed to keep most of my books for my career. The ones that I could have sold back, I could only sell back for like 10% of the price. It just wasn't worth it.

I did better selling mine off of half.com or Ebay. My school store was pretty cheap with returns. It didn't matter because I made more on half.com and ebay versus school store.

Yeah, my college bookstore was SO stingy with buy-backs that I just kept most if my books.

I never read or use a good quarter of them--but the reading material on my bookshelves sure makes me look smart!!

DD's bookstore doesn't have any of the ones she can sell on their list (part of them she needs for next semester). I was going to suggest to her that she try half.com.

I really lucked out this semester. The key is returning them ASAP. The store has a quota and the more books they get, the more prices go down.

I'd also suggest Amazon.com for selling back books that the bookstore wont accept.

Exactly! That always happened to me, especially in the field of study I was in.

I was a computer science major. I needed most of my books for reference so I couldn't sell them back. But I would have loved to get rid of all the english and history books. Does anyone need a copy of the Odyssey?

My school bookstore wont take back most of the books I bought, because the profs ordered through the bookstore in town rather than the school one (they don't want to give business to Barnes and Noble, who runs our school bookstore). I didn't have time Monday to go downtown to deal with the books before I came home, thinking I'd do it tomorrow. Well a storm is moving in, and there's no way in heck that I'm going to be walking around downtown in an ice storm (I'm tough but I'm not stupid). Plus I've heard about that whole phenomenon of book value going down. Seems like it's not worth it to sell them even though I'll never use any of them again (all were for gen ed requirements)

One of my regrets from university was selling back my books at the end of each term. I have found that many of them I could have used, especially now that I teach.

Good suggestion. My daughter has been doing this right away too instead of waiting. She usually gets about $90 for all her book. We just laugh, because next semester it will probably buy 1/2 a book.

That's my story I work FT and go to school PT and I rarely ever get to sell a book back. This semester was no exception.

The only 2 times I've sold textbooks back to the school was when it was one I purchased online. Actually, it wasn't even the school that bought them, it was the National Market. They usually have a rep from both during the buyback. One book I'd paid $5 for on Ebay and got about $30 for it at buyback and the other I'd paid like $60 for it and got $40 during buyback.

MY DH wound up paying $32 for a book. He used it this semester and just sold it for $29

I normally list mine on both Amazon and half. Then when it sells from one I delete from the other. I also buy from Amazon or Half when possible.

This semester I hated that class so much that I just sold the book back at the bookstore. I paid $10 more (on half) then I got back for it. Not to bad.

i use half.com and amazon.com to buy my books--i love it!
hated selling them back,,never got anything!
