I am just a newbie and have alot to learn but I am just so pleased with my XT so far. The 2 pictures below are taken at where my son takes swimming lessons and at our school auditorium(both have terrible lighting). I've been taking pictures at both places for over 5 years with various P&S cameras (last was a Fuji S7000). This is the first time that I am satisfied with the pictures. I know my pictures will only get better from here.

Hey Spoon2003, I'm right there with ya. Even though I just bought mine 2 days ago, I'm having fun with it already. This weekend we are going to see Thomas the Train in Lancaster County, PA, so I'm hoping to get some great shots of the kids, the trains, and of the landscape while we're there.

I'll try and post some of mine once we return.

what lens did you get? right now i hate mine but i think it's the lens..it's to heavy and i can't hold it steady. (it's this big old 100-300 film hunk of %%$#@^&* as donald duck would say but right now the smaller one is getting upgraded and i haven't bought another one yet...) i was afraid of that so i am thinking i might have to get the lightest lens i can find that i can afford or it's going to be curtains for me. i don't swear but i feel like crying..the color etc is great though and the ones on the tripod were ok( not great but maybe part is i am so totally bummed out ) a little far away for the lens but i was taking some birds... it seemed to have a hard time focusing on some white flowers i was taking( not sharp but that could be my shaking)

i guess i got a lot of reading to do or something...it looks like my film eos but think that's where the similarity ends

and does the cd manual actually download or do you have to put it in everytime? the photoshop part loaded but the manual didn't

Obviously, I can't speak for spoon2003, but I bought the kit myself, so I got Canon's 18-55mm lens. I have heard from others and reviews that it is not the best lens, but I am new to dSLRs, so I'm sure it will suffice until my lens budget increases (since it is at $0 right now) and my experience along with that.

As far as the manual's on the cd-rom, I believe you just have to copy them to your harddrive. They appeared to just be the pdf files, so nothing really to download. Once the cd-rom is opened on your computer, drag them to your desktop, then you will have them there all the time.

Spoon,
LOVE the sharpness of the auditorium pic!!! Very nice! No way my P&S would come out that crisp! :sunny:

Both of these pictures were taken with the Sigma 18-200. I know there are some complaints on this lens, but I really want a walk-around/some reach lens for vacations and my daughter's soccer games. Since I mainly take family snapshots, I feel I can deal with vignetting or whatever. I have been pleased so far. I also have the kit that I'll keep around for snapshots, etc. I just received the 50mm f1.8 everyone is raving about and plan to try it out this weekend. I want to get portraits of my kids and my niece before she leaves abroad for summer then off to college.

i like my camera better today but really love the color ...not sure if it's the camera or the lens or a combo... i am going to check the weight of the 18-200 and 18-125 and see which is less...have you taken anything at the upper mid range ( like 100+) yet?... it think that's where i heard it had problems but not sure if i would notice the problems or not, not using it for pro. applications. and if i can't use a big lens, i might rather have something more mutlipurpose

the weight difference between the 18-125 and the 18-200 is negligible. This is coming from somebody with severe wrist problem.

thanks Kelly you saved me the work of looking it up :thumbsup2 i tried the xt with the kit lens out before i ordered it so i am hoping the others are around the same weight... i don't know why this lens i have is so heavy but it's about 2x the size of the kit lens ( and the 28-80 i have) so hopefully i can handle that, I'm kind of shocked my arms are as bad as they are which somewhat added to my more than slight overreaction yesterday ( i don't adapt well at all obviously)
