Loud people versus quiet people

Are you a loud person or a quiet person? How about your spouse? My dh is a loud person and has become progressively worse over the years. He gets up at 5am and begins making noise. No matter how hard he tries he can't get dressed and get his things in the bedroom without making noise. When he yawns or sneezes he makes an extra noise at the end. He even sleeps loud. I like my quiet as much as possible. The funny thing is in the big picture of things he likes the quiet. I like going to festivals or parties or clubs and listening to loud music and crowds. But when I get home I like it quiet. He hates crowds and noise and has actually left a restaurant because of their music level.
I think it might have something to do with our jobs. I am a full time hs substitute. My days are generally filled with noise and I often have to talk more then I like. He is a commercial hvac mechanic. He spends a good deal of his time on the road alone. He goes to job sites and doesn't have to speak to people much. Also, his lack of interaction has dulled his sensitivity to how his noise level affects others around him.

I can be quite shy at times. I open up around certain people who I really trust, though. I don't have a spouse though, as I am only 15 at the moment.
I tend to be like your dh when it comes to most people. I prefer it when it's quiet for various reasons. I'm also not very social offline. Although I tend to either mumble or talk too fast nowadays, sometimes even both. I do talk a little too loud at times though.

Both DH and I are quiet people. He has to deal with loud, obnoxious people all day (Police Officer) and hates anything resembling that when he gets home. We did have issues when we first married because I need to have some kind of noise going in the background at all times due to my Autism. If I don't have some kind of white noise, I hear EVERYTHING which makes me way too nervous and keyed up.

DH's gotten used to my "soundtrack" as he calls it. I typically have some kind of jazz or other types of music running if the TV's not on. On the rare occasions when I'm working in the kitchen and the furnace or oven is being my white noise, he'll come in to talk to me and, after a few minutes, say, "It's too quiet in here" and turn on the local jazz station.

But, other than that, we're pretty quiet people. We both speak in low tones and it's kept very serene in our house. He seldom raises his voice and, on the occasions when I raise my voice, he knows I'm VERY angry about something and pays more attention.

Thats very funny! I guess cause I relate. My husband is also very loud and getting louder. He even talks loud. Sometimes while we're talking I need to ask him to tone it down.

I think as I get older I am less tolerant of loud. Especially when there is other background noise. Its as if I get over stimulated (in a bad way!) by the loudness. Festivals don't bother me either so I'm not really sure what the exact issue is.

My husband has a surround sound system in the LR and if he is watching a shot em up action movie I go to the bedroom and close the door.

I can tolerate noise to a certain degree but I often seek out peace and quiet.

I wouldn't call myself an obnoxious person but me and my dh are very loud talkers, I think mine is in part because I use to work around airplanes and always had to over talk the noise and now I'm just loud. I try to calm it down at times but tend to get loud anyways.
Now I don't mean we go though stores screaming or over talk people, I just mean we are loud when we speak.

DH talks loud too. He's had his hearing tested and its fine but I"m still suspicious. I find that when I'm talking to him I start to talk loud in response and then my head hurts from all of it. I'm wondering if my moody peri-menopause stuff has anything to do with it and my tolerance is decreasing just as his noise is increasing.

Dh and I are both pretty quiet people. We talk a lot but at a nice, low tone. I work with a lot of teachers who tend to come see me right from the classroom and they're still projecting their voices. :lmao: I've learned to ignore it but I like it quiet and speak pretty quietly at home.

Now, I've threatened to make my mom and dd move in together. They'd be the perfect roommates--if dd's not talking loudly, she has her tv or stereo blasting. My mom's losing her hearing and talks really loudly now and always has the tv at full blast. They'd really be the perfect roommates. :rotfl:

Well, at least the loud person in your life is your loved one. You can tell your dear to tone it down.

However, I have a very loud neighbor. Unfortunately, she's rude too, mocking, etc. when she's in her backyard. Wish she would

her lip. :headache:

I am super quiet and my DH is moderately quiet. The kids are both fairly quiet as well.

As I get older, I'm losing so much tolerance for people who are loud. And like you said, they're just naturally loud at everything they do! Yawning, shuffling things around, talking, banging things... even when they're not talking, they're making a racket. I hate sitting in a quiet waiting room or whatnot, then you have Hurricane Harriet breeze through not even noticing the quiet environment. How do they not notice?

My two sons are much like me. Sometimes they are even worst. They like loud times with their friends but like their home quiet too. We were all up very early today because of a terrible thunder storm. I sat and watched dh and oldest dd together. They are both loud. They are walking around loud, slamming closets loud, eating cereal loud, talking loud.... And they are both perfectly happy about it. It's 7am after a thunder storm kept us up half the night and they are acting like they are full of energy happy and on their 4th cup of coffee. It was funny to watch but generally I can't take the noise. I don't like to speak loudly even in the classroom. I enforce the kids being quiet when I'm speaking to avoid yelling over anything. I can project and speak loudly if I have to but like to avoid it.

I cannot STAND loud-talkers. Sorry those that are.... I try to remove myself from the situation if possible! It really makes me insane, it is among my top pet peeves. ;)

I'll admit, I'm a loud person. I'm always bumping in to things, accidentally slamming drawers. When I wake up, I tend to wake up the rest of the house. Guess it's a good thing that I get up later than the rest of my family. As for as if I like loud places or not, it depends on my mood. Sometimes, I would love nothing more than to go to a loud festival or sporting event, and other days, I love a quiet evening somewhere.

DH, DD, and I are all quite quiet. We could go hours sitting together without actually speaking but enjoying each others presence. When we speak, none of us are typically loud unless my DH is trying to help DD with her homework at which point he starts projecting his voice like he's a teacher or something and then she starts raising her voice because he frustrates her and then..... oh well never mind all that ;). Generally speaking we are quiet. At work, I sit up near the windows and the people on my team who are a couple of seats back are forever saying they didn't realize I was at my desk because I'm so quiet. As far as moving around the house, we live in a very small one level house and don't necessarily keep the same schedules so we have to keep the noise down so we don't keep each other awake. DH works a lot of weekends and is off a lot during the week when I am getting ready for work and DD is getting ready for school and he can catch up on his sleep.

We are pretty quiet.

My next door neighbor, though, not so much. She doesn't talk loud, but her dogs and her radio/computer/TV are

We are currently sitting on our couch, trying to drown out her TV with ours...and she's the next house over and 1 floor above us.

ugh.

My family just had dinner together. We are LOUD people, lol! My husband and my son are quiet people. Good thing we had a private room. :)

Funny! Low talkers are my biggest peeve! WHAT??? I CAN'T HEAR YOU!!!

I am loud and DH and both kids are quiet. DH needs the TV to be loud because of working around machinery all day, so I think that helps him tolerate me a bit better.

I'm a loud person as far as my voice goes. Well, actually I'm not sure my volume is any louder than anyone else's but my voice will carry and people can often understand what I'm saying at the other end of our office building. Eeek!
But I do know how to be quiet when I need to and I do so every morning that my dh gets to sleep in when I'm working (and he's better about doing the same for me after I complained, lol).
