Lot's of SSR resales!

I know several people who are dumping SSR because of the economy. They are having hard times, paying the extra gas and higher mortgages.

We just became new 160 pt SSR owners at $78 a pt and are glad to be a part of the community.

One factor, besides the size, is that SSR is new so many of the owners are still paying. Many of them may want to eliminate this extra bill. Vacations are nice but if you can't pay the mortgage, buy food and fuel the timeshare must go. Most of the people who own at older resorts have paid for them in full so they don't have the monthly payment to make. I also think people may have been spending too freely a couple years back and now that we have a mortgage and fuel crisis people are making adjustments.

I know that we wanted to buy SSR a few years ago but the timing was not right. I could have pushed it some and made the purchase but I'm glad I waited. Now we can own without the financial burden.

Welcome Home Neighbor! We sound very alike. We were thinking of purchasing back in 2003 and didn't (we regret we waited) but we weren't able to carry the financial burden at that time.

I'd agree with that - I hope to take advantage of it. I also agre with a previous poster that we'll see AKV at the peak soon. I know someone who bought at AKV specifically for a family reunion next year. They banked and borrowed and plan to sell as soon as they can. Even taking the resale discount, they're still ahead cost-wise. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the SSR stripped contracts are similar situations.

I can only add my two cents in agreement. I just bought my first contract and it was a 175 point re-sale @ $78/pt from TSS. I really believe that regret sinks in after the "honeymoon" is over for a lot of people.

I think younger couples rush in too fast without realizing that they are making a lifetime committment to travel & vacation @ Disney.

I think the love of Disney has to come 1st...:goodvibes

Just to put things in perspective:

The SSR listings total about 15,800 points, @ about 166 points per contract.

If all contracts written average 166 points, that means there are 75,000+ contracts out there, and the for-sale listings account for about .00125 of that.

Likewise, the 15,800 for-sale points account for about .00125 of the total SSR point count of approx 12,600,000+ points.

Another way of looking at it: the 15,800 points equate to the use of one 2br unit for 1 year out of a total of 828 units (792 2br and 36 GV).

Being an opportunist I've been watching these resales rather closely and just might add more on. Not to mention the 2.9% interest for the life of the loan convenience check that I received from Dinsey Visa is making me consider taking the plunge sooner rather than later!! :thumbsup2

Thats what made us buy!!!

We bought SSR 2-1/2 years ago. Our first trip there (highly anticipated) was an eye-opener and we quickly realized this wasn't the place for us. When we tried to book our next trip at another resort (using our SSR points), there were few openings at the 7-month window. A couple of times we stayed as paying customers, rather than go to SSR. We decided to buy a small, 25 point contract at Beach Club, sold our SSR points and are "interviewing" other resorts to see where we want to buy the bulk of our points. We might buy at AK but we won't decide until we've stayed there a time or two.

Girls Trip with free dining. Sept 08. Can't wait!!
