I am so confused! HELP!
1. Has anyone does lots of segmenting (several plans within one week)? I was working up some scenarios, and looks like I could save bunches, but I am not sure I have it figured correctly?

Would this scenario work?

Sat - DXDP - use snack credits for breakfast, 1TS dinner (carry 2)
Sun - no plan - use 2 TS from Sat. for lunch and dinner
Monday - DXDP - 1 TS breakfast, 1TS dinner, carry 1 TS
Tuesday - DDP - Use 1 TS from Monday, use 1 CS, carry one TS
Wednesday - DDP use 1 TS from Tues, use 1 CS, carry one TS
Thursday - no plan, Use TS from Wed
Friday DXDP - 2 TS, carry 1 to Sat.

Does these seem like a workable plan or a logistical nightmare? It's only $50 more than DDP for the week, with several more meals, snacks, and mugs!

Thanks, I've looked at this so much my head hurts!

I would expect problems with that many changes. We had QSDP for one night, and lost our meals with the key change. The wonderful staff and manager at Mara worked it out for us.

Yes, your plan can work. My only concern is the amount of times that you have to go to the front desk to get new cards (4 times at least,? I think).

We have done split reservations before with usually 3 nights deluxe and then regular dining plan for the rest of our nights. We would only have to go get new cards once.

We are going to BLT for 12 nights over July 4th week and I have a similar plan. I want 1st night no plan, 3 nights deluxe, 4 nights regular dining, 1 night deluxe, 1 night no plan, 1 night deluxe, 1 night no plan.

When I put it down like this, it seems very crazy. I'm not looking forward to going to the front desk as many times as I need to. But, this plan works for us and we actually save money over doing the regular dining plan for the entire length of stay and we get more food. I hope it works out. Good luck!

From the reports I keep reading you will most likely not have a seamless trip having that many DDP changes. Be advised you may have to visit the front desk multiple times for new keys.

We were there in Dec. and had a segmented stay due to a waitlist so ended up with two segmented parts to DDP. We were not supposed to have a problem but ended up at the front desk three times for new keys b/c of computer problems.

I'd first wonder how often you've done 2 TS in the same day. That's a lot of time spent dining, not much for anything else. For some reason I'd feel better if this got you more signature options.

There still seems to be enough issues with split stays occasionally "costing" 2 hours at the front desk per split. Is that time on vacation worth it for the benefit? (It was for my single split, not sure about a couple of those in the same trip, though)

But if you'd normally eat on that plan anyway, and it saves enough money and you do not mind the time (at least getting keys), I guess go for it

See you there - we'll be at BLT July 2-9

Thanks for all your advice everyone! Once I wrote this down, it sounded CRAZY and decided to rethink a bit, you all confirmed it.

I am now considered DXDP every other day. Spreads out the trip to front desk, should make keeping track of things a bit easier.

As far as the 2 meals/day - our girls are still in love w/ the character breakfasts. Not the best of $$, I know, but they are only young once. The two meal days will be used for those.

It's still a little cheaper to do every other day DXDP, plus we won't have to buy mugs...;)

I have a question about segmenting. We have two nights at OKW, two nights at BCV and four nights at AKV - Kidani and my understanding is that I have technically three reservations under one reservation number.

I was told that for each resort I could have a specific dining plan and a different one for the next resort. I thought you had to have a different reservation if you did that? Please advise using this scenario.

Thanks - Diane :confused3

I just called yesterday to add dining plan as follows:

Originally I had one reservation 7/1 - 7/9 at BWV. After calling this is how it's looking....

7/1 QSP (we arrive 8 pm so, just want access to the mugs)
7/2 nothing
7/3 DDP
7/4 nothing
7/5 nothing (rented car planning offsite activities)
7/6 DDP
7/7 nothing
7/8 DDP

I have prepared myself mentally for a mistake but, hopefully it works out.

BTW - they can segment your reservation without the risk of you losing it.

If you are going to WDW just to eat, then I say go for it. Personally we don't think that the food is that great and the prices are high for what you get, even if you are on the DDP. Expect to spend a lot of time at the Front Desk and expect problems in the restaurants when trying to use your credits.

We are using a segmented DDDP reservation for our stay in a couple of weeks but we are on the plan for only 2 nights out of 10. That's enough for us.

Yes you can do a different one at each even with the same Res #. I just checked on this earlier this week. I have one res# first at BCV, then AKV, then again at AKV (this was a waitlist for the last two days which came through about a month ago). I was able to add the QSP to the middle 5 days at AKV only. I think I have it planned out so we will only need to pay for about 3 or 4 days of meals but I have Rainforest coupons and GC as well as a Resteraunt.com certificate for House of Blues.

We are going to try segmenting in December. It really fits much better with how we eat with DVC. Personally I wish you could just pay for whatever you want and have everything be available for your entire stay. That is essentially what I am doing but it would be much cleaner and easier.

Wouldn't it though?!

We currently have a 7 night stay. I'd like to space out 3 Deluxe Dining nights thru the stay. I understand you have to check in to get your credits, but if the next day you don't have a plan, do you have to re-check in to get keys for that day that say no plan?

I do admit I'm nervous about the checking in so many times, but I think I'm up for the challenge...;)

As others have said, there seems to be a pretty high percentage of problems with the segmenting...even the simplist of changes. That many segments is asking for trouble IMHO. Are you willing to risk a certain level of your vacation to save some money....as in repeated stops at the front desk, explaining the problems to restaurant servers, phone calls and just uncertaintity. The segmenting also seems to add a glitch into the room charging privileges, so you may have issues if you want to use that (I have a feeling it is due to a variety of reasons CM errors, Credit card companies rejecting multiple holds and the Disney computer system glitches....which means it is very hard to figure out the problem).

To me, it is worth a couple of hundred bucks to have a worry free vacation and not deal with a lot of potential problems. Once you get into the "problems" of segmented reservations, there is no way out...you can't just cancel them.

I personally wouldn't be surprised if they don't prohibit their use, if these problems don't seem to get worked out. If more and more DVC members are doing it and having problems, they won't want to deal with the customer service issues.

On our last trip we had one night at SSR then the rest at OKW (last minute reservation, so no avail. in one resort). Since we were segmented anyway, we did DxDP the first night and got all our character meals in (Crystal Palace dinner, 1900 Park Fare Breakfast, Princess Storybook at Akhershus). This worked out great for us and saved a lot of money.... BUT we spent at least 2 hours, probably more, working out dining plan issues at check in, both at SSR and at OKW. I didn't mind for the one time, but I'm not sure I would want to deal with that every other day.

Are you AP holders? Have you looked into Tables in Wonderland? That can be a better deal in the end, especially if you are doing breakfasts instead of the really pricey options like Akhershus. It depends a lot on whether you have kids under 9 and are planning on character meals every day. The kids price for DxDP is $15 less than dinner at Akhershus. 2 of our kids are over 9, so Tables in Wonderland works better if we aren't at a character meal... they'd rather order off the kid's menu or just get an app.

We did segment our next trip so that we can have the first day on the DxDP again... we want to go to Hoop-de-doo and that doesn't work well with TiW. Then we'll get one more character meal the next night, then we'll do cash with the TiW discount or eat in the villa.

I think I'm too nervous to try to segment it so many times. I am leaning to doing one night deluxe and six nights regular (that is how I have it split right now). Three nights deluxe spread throughout the 7 nights saves me over $100 but I don't think I want to take the chance that I'll be hanging out at the front desk for hours!:goodvibes

Has anyone split it a lot and been sucessful? It seems like there is always a computer problem or confusion!
